Pair
of Six-Figure Sales at Sedo Set the Pace for the Domain Aftermarket
This Week
Sedo.com
rang up a pair of solid six-figure sales this week, including
the year's second highest country code sale, to take the lead
positions on our latest weekly Top 20 Sales Chart. Sedo's dynamic included Resumes.com at $400,000 and Software.co.uk
at £150,000 ($249,000). As strong as those sales were, Sedo
was just getting warmed up as they went on to sweep nine of the top
ten entries on our all extension leader board and 15 of 20 places
overall.
The Resumes.com sale is one of the 20
highest sales reported so far in
2009. Software.co.uk is the biggest .co.uk
sale of the year and the second biggest among all ccTLDs, trailing
only Spel.se ("games" in Swedish), a name that sold
for $266,000 at Sedo in June.
This has been quite a year at
Sedo so its little wonder that their staff and top clients were in a
celebratory mood at the annual SedoPro Partners Forum held in
Key West, Florida two weeks ago (we published a complete
review of that event yesterday).
By
Ron Jackson
One key to Sedo's success is their
dominance in the ccTLD space. 10 of the week's 20 biggest sales were
country codes and Sedo accounted for all but three of those sales including four that reached the top ten. Joining
Software.co.uk on the upper half of the elite list were Tisch.de
($30,000), Intranet.nl ($22,500) and Travestis.es
($22,500).
Two Polish .pl domains that were
sold in the live auction at the MeetDomainers
Conference in Warsaw last month also earned spots
on the Big Board. Lekarze.pl
("doctors" in Polish) soared all the way to
#3 after that deal closed at $48,600. Informatyka.pl ("computer science" in Polish)
also charted at #15 with a $10,800 sale.
In a rare occurrence, .com failed
to take the majority of the chart positions but the world's most
popular extension still piled up nine entries, while the non .com
global TLDs had just one representative, #14 HM.net, sold at Moniker.com
for $12,250.
Three more venues earned chart honors this
week. The AfternicDLS
scored with #13 Vaquero.com at $13,200, Registrars.co.ukgot on the board with #18 Scanners.co.uk at $10,493 and YummyNames.com
made their debut bow with #20 Bubbler.com at $10,000.

leaders stack up for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 18:

Keep in mind that these are the highest
value sales that have been reported to us in the
past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool,
not a complete list documenting ALL high
value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce
because many sales are kept private at the insistence of
buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the
accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.
Forthe many newcomers entering the domain
industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market.
If you do not understand why specific domain names command the
prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases.
We highly recommend that you do some basic research beforeyou buyanything! As a starting point we have
built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

Country Codes
The country codes continue to rock the
house. As we told you at the top of this report, ten ccTLDs made
the all extension leader board, taking more entries than .com. The
year's biggest .co.uk sale set the pace with Software.co.uk
banking $249,000 at Sedo.
Since you have already seen
the ten biggest ccTLD sales on the all extension leader board, let's
pick up the ccTLD action with the biggest sales you haven't seen yet
- a pair tied for the #11 position at $9,000 each - Liga.pl
(Polish ccTLD), sold at the MeetDomainers conference and Games.org.uk,
sold by Registrars.co.uk.
Games.org.uk helped Great Britain's .uk extension
edge Germany's .de 7-6 in the race for most entries on our
new Top 20 Country Code Chart. Poland's growing .pl
extension also fared well with four chart entries
Sedo traditionally dominates the ccTLD action and
they did again this week taking 13 of the 20 chart positions, but
Registrar.co.uk and MeetDomainers also got into the race with
multiple entries of their own - Registrars.co.uk with five and
MeetDomainers (a one time live auction event) with three.
Here is how all of the
country code top sellers stacked
