Pair of $200,000+ Sales Set the Pace in the Domain Aftermarket This Week

Sedo broker Dave Evanson closed a six-figure sale for the second week in a row to give the popular domain sales venue he represents the #1 position on this week's all extension Top 20 Sales Chart. Last week Evanson got credit for the $120,000 sale of OnlineDegree.com which placed 2nd on the Top 20. He one-upped himself this week, giving Sedo the top spot, with the $275,000 sale of Grid.com

The runner-up position went to another six-figure deal involving DownloadMusic.com. That domain changed hands for $242,500 in a private transaction.

Sedo answered with a pair of country code sales that claimed the 3rd and 4th positions on the elite list. Namibia.de went for $49,700 in the 6th biggest ccTLD sale reported so far this year. Another German domain, Gartenzaun.de ("garden fence" in German), followed at $26,980. Sedo went on to sweep 11 positions overall including five of the top ten.

The AfternicDLS and NoktaDomains also had solid outings as each claimed multiple chart entries. The AfternicDLS rang up four sales that qualified for the Big Board, led by #5 (tie) Famou.us at $25,000. It's the second week in a row that .us (America's country code) has produced a sale that broke the $20,000 mark (last week it was AED.us at $20,000). The AfternicDLS roster also included the only non .com gTLD on the leader board, #20 VVM.net at $9,600

NoktaDomains placed three names on the Top 20 including a pair of .coms that hit the top ten; #5 (tie) Bavul.com ("luggage" in Turkish) at $25,000 and #9 (tie) SarkiSozleri.com ("song lyrics" in Turkish) at $20,000. They also gave the country codes one of their five chart entries with #13 (tie) DoorStop.co.uk at $14,000.

MissDomain.com also contributed to the success of the ccTLDs with their $24,085 sale of #8 Games.se (Swedish country code). Still, the .coms were able to maintain their usual dominance taking 14 places overall including a third entry in the first five; #5 (tie) Kalise.com at $25,000 through Sedo.

Here's how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, July 31:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

For the many newcomers entering the domain industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market. If you do not understand why specific domain names command the prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases. We highly recommend that you do some basic research before you buy anything! As a starting point we have built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

Country Codes

A quintet of solid five-figure sales set the pace for the country codes this week with  Sedo's $49,700 sale of Namibia.de nailing down the #1 position on our latest Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. That group also included the year's highest .us sale - Famo.us at $25,000 (.us is the country code for the United States).

All of those five-figure sales were also on the all extension Top 20 Chart you saw earlier, so the highest ccTLD sale you haven't seen yet in #6 StationerySupplies.co.uk, sold by NoktaDomains for $9,300.  An IDN sale at Sedo, #7 Träume.eu was right behind at $9,230.

FabulousDomains.com.au also made a top ten appearance with #9 Chain.com.au (Australian ccTLD) at $7,697. That sale was sandwiched between a pair of Sedo sales; #8 Location.tv at $8,150 and #10 Earthing.de at $6,390. Sedo went on to sweep 14 of the 21 chart entries (the extra spot resulted from a tie for the final position).

NoktaDomains was the only other venue with multiple chart positions. They placed four names on the elite list including #11 Horatio.es (Spain's ccTLD) at $5,500 and #15 WebDesignCompany.co.uk at $4,000

Non .com gTLDs (.biz, .info, .mobi, .net, .org, .asia, .pro & .tel)

It was slow going for the .non com gTLDs this week with no sale reaching the five-figure mark. That left the door open for the AfternicDLS to take the lead on our new Non .Com gTLD Top 20 Sales Chart with VVM.net at $9,600. Another three-letter domain sale, ESJ.org at $8,800, also gave them the #2 spot and they went on to sweep 15 of the 20 chart entries.

Sedo placed five names on the leader board including two among the top five; #3 Graffikkarten.org at $7,100 and #4 WhyGo.net at $5,086.

The .orgs easily won the race among TLDs piling up 13 chart entries in their most dominating outing of the year. The .nets took the remaining seven places. The two extensions shared the #6 slot with the same keywords - Ibnalhaytham.net and Ibnalhaytham.org sold for $3,933 each at the AfternicDLS.
