Trio of 6-Figure Deals Including the Year's 2nd Biggest Non .Com Transaction Top This Week's Domain Sales Chart

The domain aftermarket enjoyed a very solid week led by three 6-figure sales including one that ranks among the year's ten biggest transactions and another that is the second biggest non .com sale reported so far in 2011. Sedo's $352,500 sale of DataCenter.com set the pace. In addition to leading our new weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart that deal is also #7 on our Year To Date Top 100 Sales Chart.

A second blockbuster, Billionaire.com at $215,000 took the #2 slot on this week's Big Board, followed by the year's 2nd biggest non .com sale. That was Cars.net, a domain that the Domain Developers Fund let go for $170,000 in a deal brokered by UpMarketDNs.com

By Ron Jackson

Sedo then went on a tear, sweeping the next five positions en route to claiming 8 of the top 10 places and 15 of the 20 chart entries over all. Their line up included all three of the ccTLDs that made the elite list. That country code trio was led by #5 Finance.co at $45,000 with the other two also reaching the top ten. Those were #10 (tie) Bitcoin.de and Bitcoins.de at $21,420 each. The Finance.co sale ranks as the 5th biggest ccTLD transaction reported so far this year.

The non .com gTLDs have four representatives on the new leader board - all .nets. That huge Cars.net sale was the headliner in this category of course, followed by the AfternicDLS sale of #9 Met.net at $22,500. GoDaddy Auctions rang up the other two charted .net sales with POF.net and VPD.net going for $18,000 apiece to tie for the 16th position.

The hits just kept on coming beyond the Top 20 with 13 more five-figure sales reported. As strong as this week was, a monster sale is expected to close soon at a price that is higher than all 20 names on this week's chart put together. That is a $2.6 million deal for Social.com that we told you about in a Lowdown post last night. A contract has been signed by both the buyer and seller in a deal co-brokered by Moniker.com's John Mauriello and Marksmen Inc.'s Cyntia King on behalf of that company's new sales division at NameQuiver.com. Once the transfer of Social.com has been completed it will be chart eligible and will become the highest reported sale of the year to date.

Here's how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, June 19:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

For the many newcomers entering the domain industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market. If you do not understand why specific domain names command the prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases. We highly recommend that you do some basic research before you buy anything! As a starting point we have built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

Country Codes

The half-dozen five-figure country code sales that we told you about in the all extension section above filled the first six spots on this week's new Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. Finance.co, the year's 5th biggest ccTLD sale, occupies the top rung on the ladder.

The highest country code sale you haven't seen yet is an Italian domain, #7 Preventivi.it at $8,640 via Sedo. Sedo, who traditionally dominates the ccTLD category, wound up sweeping all 20 chart entries. The top ten was rounded out by #8 (tie) Bangkok.ch and Impotent.ch at $7,200 each and Collective.tv at $6,500

Germany's .de had the most chart entries with seven, followed by Switzerland's .ch with four.  Here is how the Country Code Top 20 stacked up for the week ending June 19:

Non .com gTLDs (.biz, .info, .mobi, .net, .org, .asia, .pro & .tel)

Cars.net insured that this would be a memorable week for the non .com gTLDs. In addition to headlining the weekly Top 20 Chart that $170,000 sale is the year's second biggest in this category (and is also bigger than any ccTLD sale reported so far this year).

Four other domains cracked the five-figure barrier. We listed all of those on the all extension section earlier so the highest non .com gTLD sale you haven't seen yet is #6 UPG.org, sold by GoDaddy Auctions for $8,800. Another 3-letter .org, #7 MOZ.org, was close behind after selling at the AfternicDLS for $8,600. Still another, GGI.org, is #8 with a $7,416 sale at Sedo. Three-letter domains are always popular but this is the first time I've seen them take so many chart positions - eight of the first ten and 11 spots overall.

Here's how all of the Non .Com gTLD leaders stacked up for the week ending June 19:
