Logo.com Lands Atop This Week's Domain Sales Leader Board After $500,000 Sale at Sedo

Logo.com left no doubt about who ruled the Top 20 chart roost this week after changing hands for $500,000 in a deal brokered by Sedo's Ryan Colby. That deal, the 11th largest sale reported so far this year, was more than seven times higher than the next biggest transaction. It also helped Sedo pile up 10 of 20 entries on this week's sales leader board, more than any other venue.

The AfternicDLS also had a solid outing, taking the next two spots on the elite list with V9.com at $70,000 and PlaygroundEquipment.net at $59,400. The latter domain is the 5th biggest non .com gTLD sale reported in 2010 to date. Through their expanded promotion platform, the AfternicDLS also teamed up with Sedo to sell #17 SaveCo.com for $12,888.

Another big winner among the sales venues was the Oversee.net aftermarket tandem - Moniker/SnapNames. They rang up four charted sales, including three in the top ten, including EmailServices.com and OfficeRentals.com, a pair of names that sold for $35,000 each to tie for 6th on the Big Board.

By Ron Jackson

Web Sales Group and YummyNames also earned chart honors. Web Sales Group did it was #9 HuntingBoots.com at $30,000 while YummyNames scored with a $15,000 sale of #15 (tie) Wheelhouse.com.

The .coms controlled the action this week, sweeping 17 of the 20 chart entries, including 12 of the first 13. The non .com gTLDs were limited to that one big sale of PlaygroundEquipment.net. The ccTLDs were held to two chart positions, well below their recent average. Sedo's sale of an IDN, #14 Armbänder.de (German ccTLD) at $18,900 set the pace for the country codes. The other ccTLD entry on the all extension leader board changed hands in a private transaction in which Ahmed Farooq purchased #15 (tie) Movies.co.nz (New Zealand country code) for $15,000

Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 31:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

For the many newcomers entering the domain industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market. If you do not understand why specific domain names command the prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases. We highly recommend that you do some basic research before you buy anything! As a starting point we have built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

Country Codes

The country codes had a slower than usual week with just three five-figure sales, all of which we showed you in the all extension section at the top of this report. The highest ccTLD sale you haven't seen yet ranks #4 on our new Country Code Top 20 Chart. That is Toddlers.co.uk, a name that changed hands for $8,800 at Sedo. An Australian domain, CloudComputing.com.au, was right behind after selling for $8,000 at NetFleet.com.au.

We had a remarkable diversity among TLDs on this week's chart with ten different countries represented. Great Britain's co.uk had the most chart entries with four, followed by New Zealand's .co.nz with three. Five others; .de (Germany), .tv (Tuvalu), .mx (Mexico), .co.za (South Africa) and .ca (Canada) had two entries each. The remaining openings went to .com.au (Australia), .eu (European Union) and .es (Spain).

Here is how the ccTLD Top 20 stacked up for the week ending Oct. 31:

Global Contenders (Non .com gTLDs: .biz, .info, .mobi, .net, .org, .asia, .pro & .tel)

PlaygroundEquipment.net brought joy to the non .com gTLD world this week with the 5th biggest sale reported in this category thus far in 2010. Unfortunately, that was the only domain in the Global Contenders group to reach five figures. It was a long way down to #2 - WebHostingReviews.net, a name that sold for $7,800 at Sedo. LifeInsuranceCompanies.net completed the top three at $6,000. The AfternicDLS sold that domain (as well as #1 PlaygroundEquipment.net).

The .nets went on to roll up the most chart entries - ten overall including the top three. The .orgs made their first bow at #4 (tie) with QS.org at $5,000 and went on to pile up nine places. That left just one opening that was claimed by the other domain tied for 4th at $5,000 - Republic.mobi.
