6-Figure Sale at Sedo and Sensational Outing for ccTLDs Highlight This Week's Aftermarket Action

Sedo uncorked a $150,000 sale with RedWine.com to take the top spot on this week's domain sales chart. However, it was ccTLDs, rather than the .coms, that dominated the new all extension Top 20 Chart. With 12 country code domains claiming positions on the elite list and two other spots going to non .com gTLDs, only six .com domains earned places on the Big Board - the fewest since we began tracking the aftermarket seven years ago.

#2 UG.de (German ccTLD) led the country code charge with a $69,500 sale at Sedo, a venue that swept the first six chart positions and piled up 14 of the 20 entries overall. Sedo's ccTLD roster also included a big Russian country code sale - #4 TripAdvisor.ru at $50,000

Sedo also had one of the two non .com gTLD representatives on the leader board - #6 Geld.info ("money" in German) at $29,885. The other marquee sale from that category was not a .net or .org as you might expect. Instead, the honors went to a .pro - #17 RealEstate.pro - sold for $14,000 by Moniker/SnapNames

By Ron Jackson

After getting the first big list of finalized transactions from the .CO Land Rush auctions last week, more completed sales trickled in this week. Four of those made the Top 20 Chart, led by #7 Ban.co at $24,500. Though .CO is open for global registration it is technically the country code for Colombia, so those sales added another quartet of names to the ccTLD sales column. One other venue, NoktaDomains, also contributed to the country code onslaught with their $20,500 sale of BrowserGames.co.uk.

Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 3:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

For the many newcomers entering the domain industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market. If you do not understand why specific domain names command the prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases. We highly recommend that you do some basic research before you buy anything! As a starting point we have built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

Country Codes

The country codes had another outstanding week with 16 reported sales breaking the five-figure barrier (last week all 20 names on our weekly Top 20 Country Code chart broke five figures for the first time ever). Sedo accounted for 12 of this week's chart entries, led by #1 UG.de at $69,500.

You saw all of the five-figure ccTLD sales in the all extension section of this report, so the highest country code sale you haven't seen yet is #17 Payoff.de (German ccTLD), sold at Sedo for $9,313. Sedo also sold #18 eBook.co for $9,000. Seven of the charted sales came from completed transactions from the .CO Registry's Land Rush auctions, including #19 Pens.co at $8,200.

Here is how the ccTLD Top 20 stacked up for the week ending Oct. 3:

Global Contenders (Non .com gTLDs: .biz, .info, .mobi, .net, .org, .asia, .pro & .tel)

The non .com gTLDs produced a quintet of five-figure sales this week led by Geld.info ($29,885 at Sedo). An oddity about this week's Global Contenders Top 20 Chart is that there are no .net or .org domains (the extensions that usually dominate this category) among the first five. Instead we have a pair of .infos, two .biz domains and a .pro - all selling for more than $10,000.

All of the five figure sales were listed in the all extension section at the top of this report. The highest GC sale you haven't seen yet is #6 Minigolf.net, a name sold at Sedo for $7,645. GIZ.org followed at $7,000, also through Sedo, a venue that piled up 15 of the 20 chart entries.

Though there were no .nets or .orgs among the first five, the .nets came on strong further down the list and wound up taking 10 of 20 chart entries, more than any other extension. Here's how all of the Global Contenders stacked up for the week ending Oct. 3:
