DrunkDriving.com Pulled Over at the Top of Our New Weekly Domain Sales Chart

There were no six or seven figure blockbuster sales this week as the domain aftermarket throttled back to the always busy four and five figure lanes. DrunkDriving.com wound up being incarcerated at the top of our latest all extension leader board after receiving a $60,000 citation via NameConnect.com.

The runner-up spot went to the week's biggest ccTLD sale, 4X4.co.uk at £24,000 ($35,760). Sedo.com made that sale and they went on to sweep 17 of the 24 positions on our weekly Top 20 Chart (the four extra spots resulted from a five-way tie for the final position). Sedo's hit list also included #3 Grapple.com at $34,000 and #5 ISG.com at $23,000.

The AfternicDLS also had a solid week, having a hand in three of the ten biggest sales. As part of their expanded promotion service, they teamed up with GoDaddy Auctions to sell #4 BusinessTube.com at $25,000. Then, flying solo, the AfterniicDLS rang up $20,000 for #6 (tie) LifeTV.com and $15,000 for #9 eType.com.

By Ron Jackson

MediaOptions.com and Moniker.com also earned chart honors this week. MediaOptions scored with #12 WebMall.com at $14,000 while Moniker banked $10,400 for #19 DXD.com.

.Com had a dominating week, piling up 19 of the 24 chart entries. The country codes had three representatives including #17 Wasser.eu (European Union ccTLD), sold for $11,430 at Sedo and #20 (tie) Slots.co.za (South African ccTLD), a name that changed hands for $10,000 in a private transaction.

The non .com gTLDs placed two names on the elite list; #6 (tie) HairTransplant.org at $20,000 through Sedo and #16 Analytics.net at $12,500, also through Sedo.

Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, May 9:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

For the many newcomers entering the domain industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market. If you do not understand why specific domain names command the prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases. We highly recommend that you do some basic research before you buy anything! As a starting point we have built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.
