Three New Domains Qualify for Our 2010 Top 100 Domain Sales Chart in the Final Week of the Year 

The 2010 domain sales season came to a close last week with three new domains taking places on the year's final Top 100 Domain Sales Chart. Two of those newcomers cracked the six-figure barrier. OnlineKredit.net comes on board at #58 after a €100,000 ($131,000) sale at Sedo.com. Poker.com.au also earned a spot on the elite list at #75 (tie) with a $100,000 sale handled by Moniker/SnapNames.  

The third new entry was Podnova.com, sold at Sedo for a cool $90,000. That was good enough to gain a share of the 93rd position.

** In November 2009 an insider shill bidding scandal was revealed at SnapNames.com that affected as many as 50,000 auctions from 2005 to Oct. 2009. Sales from the tainted auctions were completed at the prices listed however, in an effort to offset some of the damage done, SnapNames offered refunds to those who paid more than they otherwise would have had the shill bidder not been running up the price against them. Some accepted those refunds and other did not, choosing to seek compensation through the courts. 

There is no way to know who received partial refunds and on what domains those refunds were issued, or even which reported SnapNames sales over the years were affected by the shill bidder. So, we are advising readers that even though SnapNames sales listed between 2005-Oct. 2009 were completed at the prices shown, some buyers may have received refunds after October 2009 of a portion of the original prices they paid.

Only one new domain qualified for our final Country Code Top 100 Chart for 2010 but that name earned a place among the year's 12 biggest ccTLD sales. Poker.com.au did the honors, raking in $100,000 in a sale handled by Moniker/SnapNames.

Global Contenders (.biz, .info, .mobi, .net, .org, .asia, .pro & .tel)

Four new domains qualified for our final 2010 Global Contenders Top 100 Chart and one of those soared all the way into the top three. That was OnlineKredit.net, a domain that changed hands for $131,000 at Sedo. ** In November 2009 an insider shill bidding scandal was revealed at SnapNames.com that affected as many as 50,000 auctions from 2005 to Oct. 2009. Sales from the tainted auctions were completed at the prices listed however, in an effort to offset some of the damage done, SnapNames offered refunds to those who paid more than they otherwise would have had the shill bidder not been running up the price against them. Some accepted those refunds and other did not, choosing to seek compensation through the courts. 

There is no way to know who received partial refunds and on what domains those refunds were issued, or even which reported SnapNames sales over the years were affected by the shill bidder. So, we are advising readers that even though SnapNames sales listed between 2005-Oct. 2009 were completed at the prices shown, some buyers may have received refunds after October 2009 of a portion of the original prices they paid.
