Sumo.com Wrestles Its Way to the Top of DN Journal's Expanded Two-Week Domain Sales Chart

If you feel like you are seeing double this week - you are. There was no sales column last week because we were away covering the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. East conference in Orlando (our comprehensive show review will be published this weekend). To bring you back up to speed this week's report includes all sales reported to us since the last report two weeks ago. We've also expanded all of our charts from 20 to 40 positions to make sure the top sellers don't get lost in the flood of sales data. 

Sumo.com put a stranglehold on the top position after changing hands for $150,000 at Sedo.com. Sedo wound up having a hand in 17 chart entries, more than any other venue. In a second six-figure sale, Moniker.com moved MyrtleBeachCondos.com for $120,107.

Numeric domains enjoyed a breakout over the past two weeks, claiming four entries on the expanded Big Board, including the third and fourth top sellers. 249.com was sold by the owners of Sevent.com for $92,000 and DotcomAgency.com paid $75,000 to acquire 93.com (a domain they are pointing to their 33.com game portal site). 

RickLatona.com rounded out the top five with the sale of a nice geo domain, Shreveport.com at $70,000. That was one of four names Latona put on the elite list. He also sold two more geo domains; #7 WestPalm.com at $50,000 and #19 Toluca.com at $19,000 as well as one of the numerical domains, #13 848.com at $24,000.

The AfternicDLS also had a very strong fortnight, having a role in eight of the Top 40 sales. Their list was led by #12 Click2Compare.com at $25,000. Though pay per click revenues are down across the board this year, aftermarket sales continue to outpace previous years. The Senior VP and General Manager of NameMedia's Domain Marketplace (which includes the AfternicDLS) Peter Lamson told me that his company had their best quarter ever in 1Q-2008. Lamson said, "Our SMB (Small to Medium sized Business) “end user” focus really seems to be paying off, as global business demand for a compelling online identity seems only to be accelerating. The momentum is continuing in Q2, so we are definitely seeing on AfternicDLS what you are seeing with respect to domain sales remaining strong in an otherwise challenging economic environment."

NameJet.com was another venue with multiple chart entries, placing four on the leader board, led by #10 ApartHotels.com at $27,100. 33 of the charted domains were .coms. .Net took three spots including a pair tied for #8, Vet.net and Anonymous.net, sold for $35,000 each. Another position went to .info with #11 WallStreet.info commanding $25,500 in a private sale. The three remaining positions went to ccTLDs representing Germany (.de), the United States (.us) and Great Britain (.co.uk).

.Com Supporting Cast

As you would expect with two weeks worth of data in this report, we have a huge number of four figure sales to list. Sedo led the supporting cast with Glas.com at €6,010 ($9,408) and BabyHotel.com at $9,350. Dato.com drew $9,001, NowNetwork.com notched $8,290, Zikeo.com kicked in €5,000 ($7,827) and HZX.com added €4,500 ($7,043).

For sheer volume in this price range, the AfternicDLS continues to KO all comers. Their roster included IPTVs.com ($9,000), NewExpo.com ($6,719) and a trio at $6,000 each that included VTTI.com, LettersToTheEditor.com and HokusPokus.com. EcoFactory.com cranked out $5,688, LuckyTravel.com landed $5,400 and DietCare.com weighed in at $5,160. 

ParentsClick.com posted $5,100 while five other names were bunched at $5,000 apiece. That group included TheBubbles.com, PureTravel.com, KTWO.com, EventMaker.com and EasyLegal.com. The AfternicDLS had 234 more .com sales ranging from $2,000 to $4,950 that you can check out in the table below.

Back at NameJet Safa.com sold for $8,400, Silos.com swallowed $8,120 and TheHolyLand.com harvested $7,800. SNQ.com clicked for $7,001, TaxPlanet.com levied $6,900 and BackyardWrestling.com pinned $6,550. 

FamilyAdvice.com dispensed $5,700, Kera.com cornered $5,201 and Opart.com pulled $5,044. HomeTrainer.com hoisted $4,544, TestingEquipment.com uncovered $4,300, ColoradoGuide.com generated $4,100 and Chache.com captured $4,050. 

NameJet had 37  more .com sales ranging from $2,000 to $3,789. You can review those in the table below.
