Tale
of Two Tandbergs: Tandberg Pays Tandberg Data $1.5 Million for
Tandberg.com
The first 7-figure sale to come to
light in 2007 is now on the books. Two Norwegian public
companies actually completed their $1.5 million deal for Tandberg.com
at the end of December but it just became public knowledge when Tandberg
Data released a fourth quarter financial highlights report
Thursday (Feb. 8).
Tandberg Data, a leading global supplier and manufacturer of
backup and archiving solutions, decided to take the cash offer for
Tandberg.com from Tandberg, a leading global provider of visual
communication products and services with dual headquarters in New
York and Norway. Tandberg Data's site is now at TandbergData.com.
To ease the transition, people who visit Tandberg.com
are currently finding a split home page announcing the new web
addresses for both companies.
By Ron Jackson
Tandberg is the larger of the two
companies. In the fourth quarter of 2006, Tandberg had record
revenues of just under $131 million. In the same quarter,
Tandberg Data booked just over $46 million. By the way, we
want to thank Karl-Oskar Fosshaug for bringing this
sale to our attention.
We also saw a six-figure sale finalized
this week as InterracialSex.com completed escrow at $150,000.
That domain was among the $2 million worth of names auctioned
off at last month's Moniker.com
live auction at the Internext Expo in Las Vegas. Four
more auction names made it onto our new Top 20 chart and Moniker/DomainSystems
added two others to give Moniker a hand in seven sales that earned
spots on the Big Board.
Afternic.com
placed two names on the top half of the elite list; #5 Manhunt.com
at $72,222 and #9 Mooch.com at $20,000. Sedo.com
also had a solid week, scoring big with #6 Strauss.com at $50,000
and landing four more names on the leader board. SnapNames.com
was also a multiple winner with four charted domains, led by #7 Stockz.com
at $25,000.
.Com swept 17 of the 20 chart
entries, with a .net, a .mobi and a ccTLD claiming
the remaining slots. Moniker/DomainSystems parked Neutral.net
in the 8th position at $20,300. Sedo stepped up again with
#16 Save.mobi at $10,600 and Belgium gets
credit for the country code representative as #17 Casino.be
went to Didier Beernaert for €8,000 ($10,426) in a
private transaction.

half of the all extension leader board. Overall, .net swept
half of the 20 positions on our new GC chart.
.Org was next with six entries, led by
#3 Rakeback.org, a name that sold at Sedo for $6,500.
