Jasmin.com Goes For Over $310,000 To Give SnapNames Their Biggest Domain Sale Ever

by Ron Jackson

Drop catching pioneer SnapNames.com has had a lot of big sales since the company moved to an auction format in 2004, but none as big the one they bagged this week. Jasmin.com went for a whopping $310,250 to eclipse the previous all-time leader at SnapNames, A1.com, a domain that sold for $260,250 in December. Jasmin.com also becomes the second highest domain sale reported thus far in 2006, trailing only Macau.com, a name that went for $550,000 earlier this month.

With Jasmin.com as their flag bearer, SnapNames put together a phenomenal sales week, taking 12 of the 20 positions on the Big Board, including five of the first seven. NameDrive.com and KuwaitNET.net were the only venues able to interrupt SnapName's streak at the top of the chart. NameDrive did it with the week's second six-figure sale, Amistad.com ("friendship" in Spanish) at $100,000. The domain was sold in their new traffic based Park & Sell aftermarket. KuwaitNet's big sale was 62.com at $30,000. That ranked #4 on our new Top 20 and they placed another numeric domain, 512.com, in a tie for the 8th position at $15,000.

The SnapNames juggernaut continued with #3 GolfSimulators.com ($41,500), #5 Hiller.com ($23,500), #6 IrelandVacations.com ($17,250) and #7 HarryHoudini.com ($16,861).

Sedo.com made their first official appearance at #8 with MrSite.com at $15,000 but Sedo also had a six-figure sale we are aware of that couldn't be released due to a non-disclosure agreement.

Afternic.com was the only other venue with multiple entries on the leader board. They scored with  267.com (#11 at $14,500) and a nice 3-letter org, IRD.org (tied for 17th at $9,100). The other non .coms on this week's list were #15 Scout.net (sold for $10,250 at SnapNames) and #19 WeatherShop.co.uk (sold for $8,768 at Sedo).  Here's a look at the complete Top 20 for the week ending Sunday, Feb 26:

This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both.

Afternic and Pool were the only other venues appearing in the GC spotlight, Afternic doing it with #2 IRD.org at $9,450. Another .org, Allergies.org, took the #3 slot at $7,544. After that it was nothing but .net on the top half of the leader board.

SnapNames reeled off seven straight .net winners starting with #3 LowRider.net ($4,801) and #4 ArtHistory.net ($4,200). .Biz finally halted the .net streak by gulping $2,500 worth of Beer.biz. That #11 domain sold at Pool, as did #13 Rottweilers.net ($2,153).

There were 17 more four-figure sales in this category over the last seven days. Eight of those were .orgs, five were .nets, three were .infos and one was a .biz. The .nets included FTD.net ($1,500 at Enom's Club Drop) and four that found new owners through SnapNames; Immortality.net ($1,350), BurglarAlarms.net ($1,259), ILB.net ($1,161) and Pharoah.net ($1,013)

The long list of strong .orgs all sold at SnapNames. That group included JQF-Jerusalem.org at $1,400, EDIF.org at $1,250 and Yonkers.org at $1,225. WeddingCakes.org sliced off $1,206, SDH.org drew $1,103 and AlarmSystem.org sounded a $1,050 alert. Another $1,024 went to Lina.org and BetterCampaigns.org punched a $1,000 ballot.

Most of the week's best .infos changed hands at Sedo. Kupplungen.info kicked in €1,249 ($1,490)Placement.info provided €1,100 ($1,311), Thermal.info was hot at €1,000 ($1,192) and Walk.info stepped out with €550 ($655). Back on the .biz front Daniel.biz brought €1,120 ($1,335) and NJS.biz added $500 with both of those selling at Sedo.

Country Codes

Great Britain's .co.uk took center stage on the Country Code chart this week, claiming five of the first seven entries including #1 WeatherShop.co.uk, sold at Sedo for £5,000 ($8,768). Sedo wound up handling 8 of the 12 sales on the new ccTLD list with the other four deals being done in private transactions. The .co.uk run continued with #2 Prayer.co.uk at £4,300 ($7,540).

America's country code, .us, was right on .co.uk's heels, racking up four charted sales, including #3 Classfieds.us at $7,000. That domain was bought in a private transaction by Ohio's Columbus Web Solutions, Ltd.  The other .us domains on this week's list were all bought by Chris Zouzas in a private deal. Zouzas added Revenue.us ($2,000), Project.us ($2,000) and Union.us ($1,200) to his already outstanding .us portfolio (which includes America.us among others).

As the world's second most popular extension (behind only .com), Germany's .de is usually expected to dominate this list, but this week the best it could do was an 8th place finish with Bedrucken.de ("printing" in German) at €2,600 ($3,101). Here's a look at the complete Country Code chart for the week ending Feb. 26:
