Two-Letter
.Com Changes Hands for Six Figures to Top This Week's Domain Sales
Chart
Moniker/SnapNamescompleted a $124,975 sale of QX.com to take the
top spot on our latest weekly all extension Top 20 Domain Sales
Chart. QX.com becomes one of seven two-letter .com domains that have
earned places on our Year to
Date Top 100 Sales Chart. Those seven rare ultra-short
domain names sold for prices ranging from $80,000 (for TZ.com
last February) to a whopping $700,000 for VU.com last
month.
QX.com easily outdistanced this week's
runner-up, #2 Makassar.com at $40,000 via Sedo.
Sedo also took the third spot with HeartOfLove.com at $39,000
and went on to pile up 14 of the 24 chart entries. The extra places
at the table resulted from a seven-way tie for the final position.
The AfternicDLS
also had a very strong outing, ringing up six charted sales,
including three of the week's top ten. Their roster was led by #4 Calculatrice.com
at $30,200 and they also had the only non .com gTLD
sale on the Big Board, #9 ASZ.net at $12,888.

The ccTLDs fared much better than
their non .com gTLD counterparts, earning six places on the elite
list - all of those handled by country code sales king Sedo. A pair
of British domains led the ccTLD charge; #7 LittleHouse.co.uk
at $15,400 and #11 GainingWeight.co.uk at $12,320.
Another notable country code sale was #15 (tie) CoinFlip.it
(Italian ccTLD) at $10,400. That domain had been acquired
through Sedo just last March for $1,390, giving the seller a ten-fold
increase on their investment with this resale.
Moniker/SnapNames joined Sedo and the
AfternicDLS as the only venues with multiple chart entries. They
added #5 OffTheGrid.com ($30,175) to their chart-topping sale
of QX.com. HuntingMoon.com
also earned chart honors with #18 (tie) Swapping.com at $10,000.
One buyer, Bill McClure of Coffee.org,
wound up purchasing two charted domains. He got #12 (tie) FlowerOrder.com
for $11,000 through BuyDomains (part of the AfternicDLS) and
#18 (tie) WJM.com for $10,000 in a private
transaction.

Keep in mind that these are the highest
value sales that have been reported to us in the
past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool,
not a complete list documenting ALL high
value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce
because many sales are kept private at the insistence of
buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the
accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.
Forthe many newcomers entering the domain
industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market.
If you do not understand why specific domain names command the
prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases.
We highly recommend that you do some basic research beforeyou buyanything! As a starting point we have
built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

Country Codes
A half dozen five-figure sales at Sedo set
the pace for the ccTLDs this week, filling the first six slots
on our latest Country Code Top 20 Sales
Chart. Those all made the all extension Top 20 Chart you saw
above, so the highest ccTLD sales you haven't seen yet are a pair of
two-letter German domains; #7 IL.de at $8,550 and #8 VG.de
at $7,931. Sedo also handled those two sales as they went on
to sweep 19 of the 20 chart entries.
Rounding out the top ten were #9 Home.at at $6,403
and #10 Lottowelt.de at $5,777, giving Sedo the entire
top half of the leader board. The only spot that didn't go to Sedo
was #16 CarWash.com.au (Australian domain), a name that sold
for $4,827 at NetFleet.com.au.
Germany's .de won the race among extensions,
taking seven chart entries. Great Britain's .co. uk was next
with five. The only other TLD with multiple chart positions was
Italy's .it with two.
