On the other hand, muddyng the water a bit, Media Corp. said it
will retain intellectual property, customer databases and
infrastructure assets that will be redirected to the company's
online gaming business at PurpleLounge.com.
So, we will have to take a closer look at this deal when it closes
before making a final call.
Now let's get to the big deals that did
close over the past week, led by the trio of six-figure sales at the
top of the chart. Sedo claimed the pole position with their $220,000
sale of Consolidation.com and rang up a second sale at this
level with #3 MAI.com at $119,200.
Sandwiched in between those two was DearSales.com
(Update: after this column was
published we learned that this domain as part of a larger portfolio
sale and was not an individual domain sale. As such it is not
eligible for our charts).
The .coms enjoyed an unusually
dominant week, sweeping 19 of the 20 chart entries. The only
exception was a lone ccTLD, #16 Tada.de, sold by Sedo
for $16,390. Sedo turned in a powerhouse performance of their
own, claiming 14 chart positions, including 8 of the first 10. Nokta
Domains was the only other venue with multiple chart
entries, taking three places with a group led by #9 Prezervatif.com
at $30,000.
The new Toby Clements Newsletter made
its first chart appearance this week with the $15,000 sale of
#17 (tie) GirlFights.com. YummyNames
and the AfternicDLS
also teamed up to make one of the four sales in that logjam at #17 -
Telematic.com (also $15,000 or course).
Here's how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the
week ending Sunday, May 1:

Keep in mind that these are the highest
value sales that have been reported to us in the
past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool,
not a complete list documenting ALL high
value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce
because many sales are kept private at the insistence of
buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the
accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.
|
For
the many newcomers entering the domain
industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market.
If you do not understand why specific domain names command the
prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases.
We highly recommend that you do some basic research before
you buy anything! As a starting point we have
built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

A quartet of five-figure sales set the
pace for the ccTLDs this week with Tada.de leading the
way with a $16,390 sale at Sedo, followed closely by two more
deals at the same venue; #2 Whiskey.co ($14,900) and #3 Hollandrad.de
($14,185).
Sedo went on to sweep 20 of the 22 chart entries
(the extra spots resulting from a three-way tie for the final
position). Only NoktaDomains kept Sedo from running the table with
their $10,000 sale of #4 KitchenStools.co.uk. SalaryCalculator.co.uk
rounded out the first five after going for $8,245. LED.cc

Non .com gTLDs (.biz, .info, .mobi, .net, .org, .asia, .pro & .tel)
It was a slow week for the the non .Com
gTLDs with only one domain from this category reaching five
figures. That was Sai
Pola's purchase of Attorneys.info for $13,000
through Sedo, a venue that had a hand in every sale on our new Top
20 chart except one. The lone exception was #13 Mybo.net, a
name sold by GoDaddy Auctions for $3,788.
The runner-up spot went to Aquaculture.org at
$9,685 but the .nets had the most chart entries with
ten, led by #3 Finanzberater.net at $6,705. The .infos
also had a good week with four charted domains, including #10
Bewerbung.info at $4,321.

As always, we welcome all verifiable sales reports from companies,
private sellers or individuals with knowledge of an important sale
made through any channel. To contribute information and help make
this column better, just drop a note to [email protected].
We truly appreciate the industry leading
companies who share their sales information
with us to help everyone in the business get a handle on current
domain values. Richard
Meyer of Domain Sales Center also provides invaluable help
in collecting data for these sales
reports each week.
Every Wednesday we publish the highest reported domain name
sales for the previous week. On Mondays and Tuesdays our contributors send us
their sales data for the previous 7 days. We then compile that
information and write this article to give
you the most comprehensive sales report in the industry.
Editor's Note: If you wish to review previous Domain
Sales columns, they are available in our Archive.
