DoorHardware.com Helps Sedo Lock Down 14 of 20 Positions on This Week's Domain Sales Chart

March apparently isn't the only thing that "came in like a lion" this month. You can also add Sedo to the list. The popular aftermarket sales site was King of the Jungle this week, sweeping four of the first five places on our new weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart and 14 of 20 positions overall. Sedo's haul included $85,000 for chart topper DoorHardware.com. They also scored with #3 Kortingen.nl, the week's biggest country code sale, at $30,513, and a pair of .coms that tied for 4th; Fotosgratis.com and Zappit.com at $25,000 each

Only #2 SideEffects.com broke Sedo's stranglehold on the top quarter of the chart. Customer Hook, bought that domain from SafetyNet.co.uk for $40,000. Customer Hook's VP of Operations, Adam Torkildson, told me, "We plan on developing it to be a massive information portal for side effects of everything on the planet. We have a partnership with Brigham Young University to provide some clinical research and interns to help us with our content."

By Ron Jackson

The AfternicDLS also had another solid outing with three charted domains, including a pair in the Top 10: #6 3J.com at $24,500 and #9 SuperTomato.com at $15,725. The only other venue with multiple chart entries was Moniker/SnapNames, who hit the Daily Double with #17 (tie) Juegosdemario.com at $11,000 and #19 UglyPeople.se (Swedish ccTLD) at $10,750. A third country code domain, #16 Aanbiedingen.eu, also made the elite list with a $12,441 sale at Sedo.

The non .com gTLDs matched the ccTLDS with three charted domains - all .nets and all sold by Sedo. Two of those reached the top half of the Big Board; #8 Service.net at $19,000 and #10 Stellenangebote.net at $15,500.

Here's how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, March 6:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

For the many newcomers entering the domain industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market. If you do not understand why specific domain names command the prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases. We highly recommend that you do some basic research before you buy anything! As a starting point we have built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

Country Codes

A quartet of five-figure sales set the pace for the country codes this week. We showed you that group, led by Kortingen.nl ($30,513), in the all extension section above, so the biggest ccTLD sale you haven't seen yet is #5 on our new Country Code Top 20 Chart. That is Verbraucherportal.de, a German domain sold at Sedo for $9,730. They also sold #6 Aktionär.de, an IDN, for $8,479. Sedo went on to sweep 21 of the 23 chart entries (the extra positions resulted from a six-way tie for the final spot.

One of the two sales Sedo did not claim was #7 Avendre.ca (Canadian country code), a domain that sold in a private transaction for $7,500

Germany's .DE claimed the most chart entries with eight. France's .FR was next with four, followed by the Netherlands' .NL with three.
