Christmas Comes Early at Sedo Where LawFirm.com Commands $233,000 and a Much Bigger Deal Appears Ready to Close

There must be a lot of Christmas cheer in the offices at Sedo.com right now. They closed the past week's biggest domain sale - LawFirm.com at $233,501 and as of this writing appeared ready to complete one much bigger than that.

The price paid in the larger transaction may never be released though. That one involves Income.com, a domain that John Reese (who delivered one of the best T.R.A.F.F.I.C. keynote speeches I ever heard at the 2007 show in Las Vegas) listed at Sedo in October with a $1 million asking price.

Sedo broker David Evanson, who was handling the name, apparently found a buyer as the domain, as of this writing, is titled to Sedo's transfer department. No details have been released, so we will have to wait and see if this one will be subject to a non disclosure agreement or not. Either way, David and Sedo will have good reason to pour an extra glass of champagne over the holidays.

By Ron Jackson

Sedo, who swept 12 of the 20 position on our new weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart, also claimed the runner-up position with a German country code sale, Mexiko.de, at $42,090. That was one of four ccTLDs that Sedo placed on the elite list. HorseRacing.co.za (South African country code) joined Mexiko.de on the top half of the leader board was a $20,000 sale. That is just the latest in a number of impressive sales the .co.za extension has enjoyed this year.

The non .com gTLDs have three representatives on the Big Board - two of which rank among the week's five biggest sales. Those are #4 CreditCheck.org, sold at Moniker.com/SnapNames.com for $31,000, and CD.net, a domain that UpmarketURLs.com and Eric Rice teamed up to broker for the seller. In another nice .net sale, long-time friends Marcia Lynn and Warren Walker sold MyrtleBeachHotels.net for $15,000 in a private transaction.

Still the .coms enjoyed their usual chart domination, taking 13 places on the chart including MostWantedDomains.com's sale of #3 ReverseMortgageCalculator.com for $40,000. MostWantedDomains is operated by popular blogger Michael Berkens

The AfternicDLS was behind four of the week's biggest .com sales. That quartet was led by #6 AmericanPro.com at $25,800. The AfternicDLS also did very well with non .com gTLDs as you'll see a little bit later in this report where you will notice they swept 10 of 20 places on our new Global Contenders (non .com gTLDs) Chart.

Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Dec. 19:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

For the many newcomers entering the domain industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market. If you do not understand why specific domain names command the prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases. We highly recommend that you do some basic research before you buy anything! As a starting point we have built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

There were 7 more five-figure sales just off the chart and Sedo accounted for five of those including BMS.org ($12,000), 062.com ($11,562) and Bambus.pl ($11,004). Yesorno.com yielded another $11,000 and HipHop.net added $10,099.

Moniker/SnapNames sold SeniorSinglesMeet.com for $12,000 and YummyNames sent TheDomain.com to Michael Berkens, also for $12,000. As most of you know Michael writes a leading blog at TheDomains.com, so acquiring the singular version is a nice brand protection buy for him.

 Domain Buyer Broker

*****

As always, we welcome all verifiable sales reports from companies, private sellers or individuals with knowledge of an important sale made through any channel. To contribute information and help make this column better,  just drop a note to [email protected].

We truly appreciate the industry leading companies who share their sales information with us to help everyone in the business get a handle on current domain values. Richard Meyer of Domain Sales Center also provides invaluable help in collecting data for these sales reports each week.

Every Wednesday we publish the highest reported domain name sales for the previous week. On Mondays and Tuesdays our contributors send us their sales data for the previous 7 days. We then compile that information and write this article to give you the most comprehensive sales report in the industry.

Editor's Note: If you wish to review previous Domain Sales columns, they are available in our Archive.
