Three non .com gTLDs also made the
elite list, led by the SnapNames sale of #9 CJ.org for $29,420.
Sedo rang up the other two; #18 Loan.asia ($14,200) and #20 Vacations.info
($12,901).
One of the more interesting sales was #11 Locuridemunca.com
at $22,779
in a private transaction. That is Romanian for one of
the great keywords, "jobs," but it's not often we see
Romanian terms at this high price level.
Though developed websites are not eligible
for our domain only sales charts, there were a couple of noteworthy
transactions in
that category this week. In a blockbuster
deal, Skip Hoagland sold his MyrtleBeach.com
site to Intellistrand for $6.5 million PLUS
Intellistrand's 50% interest in several other major geodomain
sites they had been operating jointly. That gives Hoagland full
ownership of a group that includes Honolulu.com, Baltimore.com,
Wiliamsburg.com, ParkCity.com, Daytona.com and SouthCarolina.com.
In another high end website sale Models.co.uk
changed hands through the AcornDomains.co.uk
forum for £100,000 ($156,000). A Twitter
post indicated the buyer was primarily interested in the
domain name (a great one on its own merits) and planned to re-develop
the website. However, with its existing revenue stream and current
membership base we still have to consider this to be more than the
sale of the domain only. That in no way diminishes an impressive
deal that looks to me like a win win for both sides.
Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the
week ending Sunday, Sept. 19:

Keep in mind that these are the highest
value sales that have been reported to us in the
past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool,
not a complete list documenting ALL high
value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce
because many sales are kept private at the insistence of
buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the
accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.
|
For
the many newcomers entering the domain
industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market.
If you do not understand why specific domain names command the
prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases.
We highly recommend that you do some basic research before
you buy anything! As a starting point we have
built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

Country Codes
For the second week in a row, the county
codes rang up a half dozen five-figure sales. That group, led by
#1 SwissTV.ch, was listed in the all extension section at the top of this
report. The highest ccTLD sale
you haven't seen yet is #7 HotelCard.de, a German
country code domain that changed hands for $9,310 at Sedo.
Sedo went on to sweep 18 of the 21 positions on the
Country Code chart (the extra spot resulted from a tie for the final
opening). Their roster included #10 Team.co.uk at $7,800.
.co.uk and .de tied for the most chart representatives
with four each.
Drop.com.au was the only other venue with multiple
chart entries. They hit the daily double with #5 CreditCard.net.au
at $14,194 (their highest .net.au sale to date) and #19 Specials.com.au
at $2,839. MediaOptions also earned chart honors with #17 Funds.us
at $3,400.

Global Contenders (Non .com gTLDs:
.biz, .info, .mobi, .net, .org, .asia, .pro & .tel)
The non .com gTLDs had one of their
better outings this week with a half a dozen domains breaking the
five-figure barrier. You saw all of those in the all extension
section earlier. The top entry on our new Global Contenders Top 20
Chart that you haven't seen yet is #7 Zowie.net, a name sold
at Sedo for $5,500. Sedo went on to sweep 14 of the 20 chart
entries.
Sedo's list included a rare .tel sale - #10 TelChina.tel
at $4,992. The AfternicDLS also had another solid outing
placing four names on the leader board. Their group was led by #13
Playgrounds.org at $4,188. SnapNames also had multiple
chart entries. In addition to the #1 sale - CJ.org at $29,420
- they scored with #12 RachatDeCredit.net at $4,500.
Among extensions, .net had the most chart
entries with 8, one better than .org's 7. Two .infos
made the elite list while .asia, .tel and .biz
each had one.

As always, we welcome all verifiable sales reports from companies,
private sellers or individuals with knowledge of an important sale
made through any channel. To contribute information and help make
this column better, just drop a note to [email protected].
We truly appreciate the industry leading
companies who share their sales information
with us to help everyone in the business get a handle on current
domain values. Richard
Meyer of Domain Sales Center also provides invaluable help
in collecting data for these sales
reports each week.
Every Wednesday we publish the highest reported domain name
sales for the previous week. On Mondays and Tuesdays our contributors send us
their sales data for the previous 7 days. We then compile that
information and write this article to give
you the most comprehensive sales report in the industry.
Editor's Note: If you wish to review previous Domain
Sales columns, they are available in our Archive.
