Sedo On Fire as They Sweep All But Two Positions on Our Latest Weekly Top 20 Sales Chart

Sedo makes a consistently strong showing on our weekly Top 20 Sales Chart and it is not uncommon for them to take at least half of the positions on the elite list. However the Cologne, Germany based company outdid themselves this week, turning in the best showing by anyone ever on our all-extension leader board. Sedo's sales blitzkrieg gave them 18 of the 20 chart positions, including all of the first 13 places.

029.com led the Sedo charge with the year's highest numerical domain sale, changing hands for a cool $110,000. #2 Underdog.com over-achieved with a $46,800 sale while another numerical domain, 980.com, rang up $40,000 to place third.

After two straight weeks of seeing non .com domains take more chart entries than .com (the first time that has ever happened) the .coms bounced back this week, pulling out a narrow 11-9 win over the non .com challengers.

By Ron Jackson

As is usually the case, the vast majority of the non .com sales are ccTLDS - seven in all this time around the track. The two non .com gTLDs on the Big Board are #4 (tie) RandomActOfKindness.org at $25,000 and #20 Booking.travel at $11,000. .Travel has struggled ever since it was introduced and sales at this level have been few and far between for the extension.

The country code contigent was led by a trio of .de sales (German ccTLD) including two that reached the top ten; #6 Kinderspiele.de at $20,640 and # 8 SM.de at $19,350. A British domain, #10 IndependentFinancialAdviser.co.uk, also landed on the top half of the chart with a $15,561 sale.

NameJet.com was able to keep Sedo from scoring a clean sweep of the Top 20 by taking two entries; #14 Dinan.com at $13,544 and #19 SendFax.com at $11,100.

Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, July 25:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

For the many newcomers entering the domain industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market. If you do not understand why specific domain names command the prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases. We highly recommend that you do some basic research before you buy anything! As a starting point we have built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

Global Contenders (Non .com gTLDs: .biz, .info, .mobi, .net, .org, .asia, .pro & .tel)

The .non .com gTLDs put just two names over the five-figure bar this week, both of which made the all-extension leader board at the top of this report. The biggest sale in this category that you haven't seen yet is TCM.org, #3 on our Global Contenders Top 20 Chart after a $9,309 transaction at NameJet.

The .orgs and the .nets each had ten chart entries. The .nets were led by #4 DatingService.net at $7,000. Sedo made that sale and went on to take 12 of the 21 chart positions (the extra spot resulted from a tie for the final spot).

The only domain on the elite list that was not a .net or a .org was #2 Booking.travel at $11,000, the highest .travel sale we have seen this year.
