Sedo Captures Top Spot on This Week's Domain Sales Chart with Capture.com

For the second straight week no reported sales broke the six-figure barrier, though a couple of even bigger blockbusters are waiting in the wings. Moniker is expected to close a pair of seven-figure sales soon; Slots.com at $5.5 million and Dating.com at $1.75 million. Also, as we posted in our Lowdown section Tuesday, we were made aware of a $125,000 joint sale that was completed by YummyNames and the AfternicDLS, however the name involved was subject to a non disclosure agreement with the buyer asking that the name not be published.

The top completed sale publicly reported over the past seven days was Capture.com, a name than corralled $53,200 at Sedo.com. Sedo also snared the runner up spot with WHIB.com at $48,600 and they went on to take 11 of the 21 chart entries (the extra spot on our Top 20 Sales Chart resulted from a three-way tie for the final position.

NameJet.com placed three names on the all extension leader board, led by #9 Tahoo.com at $11,701. The only other venue with multiple chart entries was Moniker who scored with the $11,000 sale of #12 GreenwichVillage.com and a $10,200 deal for #16 (tie) Bolted.com

By Ron Jackson

Five other sales venues earned chart honors and they made them count as they each placed a name in the Top Ten. GoDaddy Auctions banked $37,505 with #3 IPS.com. SnapNames was right behind, taking the #4 spot with HomeOwnersInsurance.net at $32,000 and HuntingMoon.com rounded out the first five with #5 BoyTube.com at $18,000

The AfternicDLS and MissDomains.com also reached the top half of the leader board. Afternic did it with #7 ClinicalWaste.com at $15,000 while MissDomain made their mark with an $11,156 sale of #10 M4.se (a Swedish ccTLD).

Sedo put two more country code domains on the elite list; #9 Neue.de ($12,400) and #13 Hausbau.eu ($10,540). The non .com gTLDs had two representatives on the chart - the aforementioned HomeOwnersInsurance.com (the fourth highest sale of the year to date in this category) as well as #15 Patent.info, sold at Sedo for $10,292. The .coms dominated again, piling up 16 of the 21 chart entries.

Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, May 16:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

For the many newcomers entering the domain industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market. If you do not understand why specific domain names command the prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases. We highly recommend that you do some basic research before you buy anything! As a starting point we have built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

Country Codes

A trio of five-figure sales led this week's Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. You saw all of those in the all extension section at the top of this report. Sedo sold that domain and went on to sweep 21 of the 22 chart positions (the extra spots resulted from a four-way tie for the final position).
