Guns.com Gives Moniker Top Spot on This Week's Domain Sales Chart  and #3 Position on YTD Leader Board

The $800,000 sale of Guns.com, handled via Moniker.com, easily claimed the #1 position on this week's Top 20 Sales Chart. That is also the biggest .com sale reported so far this year. The name of the buyer was not disclosed.

Normally, the year's biggest .com sale would also rank #1 on the Year To Date Sale Chart, but in a bit of an oddity, Guns.com trails .org and  .fr (French ccTLD) domains on the YTD list. Poker.org still leads all comers after a $1 million sale at Sedo last month and Credit.fr is #2 after changing hands for €587,500 ($851,875), also at Sedo.

Still an 800K sale is certainly nothing to sneeze at and this blockbuster was 8 times bigger than its closest competitor this week - Guagua.com, a name that generated a $100,000 sale for Sedo. That's the 7th time this year Sedo has registered a sale of six figures or (in the case of Poker.org) more.

By Ron Jackson

Sedo had a hand in 11 of this week's 20 charted sales including one they completed for Mocus.com that sent #3 Pepe.com to a new owner for €45,000 ($61,200). That sale represented a great return on investment for Mocus owner Francois Carrillo who had acquired the domain a little over two months ago for $15,000 in a Bido.com auction.

This was also another good week for the country codes as they piled up six chart entries led by #5 Risultati.it (Italian ccTLD) at €32,000 ($43,520). Three other country code domains (a pair of German .de names and a Dutch .nl domain) reached the top half of the Big Board. Sedo, who dominates ccTLD aftermarket sales, accounted for all six of those charted country code sales.

The non .com gTLDs had two representatives on the elite list, both .net domains. #17 Refrigerator.net attracted $17,000 at the AfternicDLS and #19 Sys.net went for $12,500 at Sedo.

.Coms swept the remaining 12 chart positions. Among venues, the AfternicDLS had a good outing with four names on the leader board. SnapNames and Moniker also had multiple entries with two each and Latonas.com joined the hit parade with one. Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, March 7:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

For the many newcomers entering the domain industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market. If you do not understand why specific domain names command the prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases. We highly recommend that you do some basic research before you buy anything! As a starting point we have built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

Country Codes

The country codes enjoyed another big week piling up nine five-figure sales, led by Risultati.it at $43,520, which also ranks as the 8th biggest ccTLD sale reported so far this year. We listed all of those five-figure country code sales in the all extension section at the top of this report and three of those sales may have looked familiar to you. That is because those three changed hands for the second time in as many months.

JB.de (#5 on our new Country Code Top 20 Chart) was quickly flipped for $12,920 this week after being acquired for $5,250 last month. 73.de and 87.de were also turned over for solid profits after being acquired in February. 73.de, bought for $6,900, was resold for $10,200 and 87.de, purchased for $6,210, also sold for $10,200. All of those purchases and sales were handled by Sedo who swept 18 of the 20 positions on our new ccTLD leader board.

The top country code sales you haven't seen yet are #10 Call.at (Austrian ccTLD) at $9,180 and #11 Drucker-Toner.de (German ccTLD) at $8,840. Here is how the country code leaders stacked up for the week ending March 7:

Global Contenders (Non .com gTLDs: .biz, .info, .mobi, .net, .org, .pro & .tel)

The non .com Global Contenders continue to lag ccTLD performance with only two five-figure sales this week, the pair of .nets that you saw on the all extension leader board - Refrigerator.net ($16,500) and Sys.net ($12,500).

Rounding out the first five on our new Global Contenders Top 20 Chart are Telmemor.net ($9,450), Portland.org ($8,500) and Mature.net ($7,000).

The .nets had the most chart entries with 10, followed closely by .org's 8. The remaining two spots went to .infos, including one that reached the top half of the elite list, Analytics.info at $5,000 via Sedo, who led all venues with 7 chart entries. AfternicDLS was right behind with 6.

Here's how all of the Global Contenders stacked up for the week ending March 7:
