Bags Top Spot on the Domain Sales Chart Covering the Past Two Weeks
I was away covering the T.R.A.F.F.I.C.
New York conference last week (our comprehensive show review
article will be out this weekend), so we have a double-length
report for you this week that will bring you completely up to speed
on all sales reported to us since our last column October 21.
A trio of six-figure transactions leads our
expanded Top 40Chart covering the past fortnight. Moniker
set the pace with #1 Best.com at $331,561. The buyer bought #11 Best.net for $36,840 at the same time,
bringing their total bill for the pair in at $368,401.
Also
breaking the six-figure barrier were #2 Sudan.com, sold at Sedo
for $120,000 and #3 Pipi.com, a name that attracted $100,000
in a private transaction.
By
Ron Jackson
Sedo went on to claim 16 of the 40 chart
entries, more than any other venue. They took five of the top ten
spots, including #4 PokerBonus.com at $85,000). Sedo
also accounted for all six of the country code domains on the
all extension leader board. Their ccTLD contingent was led by #9 Kinofilme.de
("motion pictures" in German)
at $44,100.
There are also six non .com global TLDs
on the Big Board; three .nets, two .orgs and a .biz
(#31 M.biz, sold by Sedo for $15,611). .Com
dominated though, sweeping the first eight places on the elite list
and taking 28 of 40 overall.
A half dozen sales venues each collected
multiple chart entries. In addition to Sedo, the AfternicDLS
rang the Top 40 bell six times, NameJet
added five notches to their belt, Moniker filled four
openings, MostWantedDomains
debuted with three and SnapNames
posted a pair. In addition, the three private sales (all of which
reached the top ten) were produced by the same seller.
Here is how all of the
leaders stack up for the two weeks ending Sunday, Nov. 1:

Keep in mind that these are the highest
value sales that have been reported to us in the
past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool,
not a complete list documenting ALL high
value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce
because many sales are kept private at the insistence of
buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the
accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.
Forthe many newcomers entering the domain
industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market.
If you do not understand why specific domain names command the
prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases.
We highly recommend that you do some basic research beforeyou buyanything! As a starting point we have
built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.
There were nine more five-figure sales just off
the chart. Sedo had the highest of those with WordPlay.com at $12,000
and they also sold Bang.me ($10,750), B.biz ($10,005)
and ShirtShop.com ($10,000). SnapNames banked $11,609 for
Quote.org, Moniker made $10,200 with CriminalJustice.net
and the AfternicDLS added $10,000 for Ziti.com. In
a pair of private sales, Nedvizhimost.com ("real
estate" in Russian) and ZAL.com
went for $10,000 each.
.Com Supporting Cast
Sedo led the .com supporting cast with
Offerbox.com at $9,555 and also scored with Juegosdemariobros.com

My-Art.com drew $6,174 and Manz.com mined $5,909.

Country Codes
The country codes continued to show their
muscle this week with seven 5-figure sales, six of which made the
all extension Top 40 chart you saw at the top of this report. The
highest sale you haven't seen yet is #8 Auberges.fr (French
ccTLD) at $8,820 via Sedo. With two weeks worth of data to
work with, we expanded this week's Country Code Chart to 30
positions and Sedo wound up sweeping all but two places on the
leader board.
As is usually the case, Germany's popular .de
extension claimed the most chart positions with 10. This was also a
good week for France's .fr extension as it placed three names
on the top half of the elite list.
Here is how all of the
country code top sellers stacked

As always, we welcome all verifiable sales reports from companies,
private sellers or individuals with knowledge of an important sale
made through any channel. To contribute information and help make
this column better, just drop a note to [email protected].
We truly appreciate the industry leading
companies who share their sales information
with us to help everyone in the business get a handle on current
domain values. Richard
Meyer of Domain Sales Center also provides invaluable help
in collecting data for these sales
reports each week.
Every Tuesday night or Wednesday
morning we publish the highest reported domain name
sales for the previous week. On Mondays and Tuesdays our contributors send us
their sales data for the previous 7 days. We then compile that
information and write this article to give
you the most comprehensive sales report in the industry.
Editor's Note: If you wish to review previous Domain
Sales columns, they are available in our Archive.
