Leads a Double Length Domain Sales Report That Will Bring You Up to
Date on all Reported Sales Over the Past Two Weeks
I was away last week covering the T.R.A.F.F.I.C.
Silicon Valley conference in Santa Clara, California, so
this week we are running a double length report that will bring you
completely up to date on all domain sales reported to us since our
last column two weeks ago. All three of our Top 20 charts have been
expanded to 40 positions this week to accommodate the double dose of
information
A highlight of the T.R.A.F.F.I.C.
conference was the $1.4 million sale of Ad.com in Moniker's
live auction. We won't be able to chart that one until the domain
has been transferred to the new owner (India's Directi, parent
conpany of Skenzo and LogicBoxes), but it is good to
know the year's fourth 7-figure sale is in the pipeline.
A major ccTLD sale was completed
through Sedo
over the past fortnight but unfortunately, due to a non disclosure
agreement, we cannot release the name of that .com.mx domain
(Mexico's
country code) that changed hands for 140,000 ($186,200).
Had we been able to chart it, that would rank as the year's second
highest country code sale.
By
Ron Jackson
Even though they couldn't release the name
involved in that six-figure sale, Sedo still had a sensational
couple of weeks, piling up 28 of the 40 entries on our all extension
leader board, including a sweep of the first five spots. #1 90.com
led the Sedo charge at 56,000 ($74,480). Noktaprevented Sedo from taking ten in a row, by claiming the #6 and #8
positions with FreeStockCharts.com ($38,000) and CremationJewelry.com
($32,500).
.Com domains occupy the first ten
spots on the Top 40 chart and the world's most popular extension
booked 26 openings overall. The ccTLDs flexed their muscles too,
accounting for 10 charted sales, with all of those being handled by
Sedo. The country code contingent was led by #11 FotoPuzzle.de
(German extension) at $24,096 and #13 Pizzeria.at
(Austrian extension) at $22,610.
The Global Contenders (non .com gTLDs) got
on the board thanks to a quartet of .net sales let by #19 MML.net,
a name that sold for $18,000 through the AfternicDLS.
The interesting thing about that sale is that the seller just picked that
domain up in March for a mere $1,500 via SnapNames.
That's a heck of a return on a two-month investment.
Here is how all of the
leaders stack up for the two weeks ending Sunday, May 3:

Keep in mind that these are the highest
value sales that have been reported to us in the
past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool,
not a complete list documenting ALL high
value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce
because many sales are kept private at the insistence of
buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the
accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.
Forthe many newcomers entering the domain
industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market.
If you do not understand why specific domain names command the
prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases.
We highly recommend that you do some basic research beforeyou buyanything! As a starting point we have
built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.
Sedo led the .com supporting cast with Teza.com
at $9,500 and they also scored with AbdominalSurgery.com

Country Codes
Five-figure sales have become commonplace in
the country code category and ten more at that level were reported
over the past two weeks. All ten of those earned spots on the all
extension leader board at the top of this report and they occupy the
first ten positions on our expanded ccTLD Top 40 chart.
The top sale you haven't seen yet is number #11 MensTrainers.co.uk
at £6,100 ($9,211) via Sedo, a venue that totally dominates
the country code space. Sedo swept all 41 positions on our
new ccTLD chart (the extra spot resulted from a tie for the final
position)! In the race among extensions, Great Britain's .co.uk
and Germany's .de dominated the chart with 12 entries each.
Lithuania (.lt) made a rare chart appearance
this week with Poker.lt tying for #7 at 10,000 ($13,300).
Tools.pl (Polish country code) sold for the same amount. If there are country code extensions
on the chart that you are not familiar
with, you can look up the nation each extension represents here.
Here is how all of the
country code top sellers stacked

Global Contenders
(.biz, .info, .mobi, .name, .net & .org)
The Global Contenders continue to lag behind
the .coms and ccTLDs. There were only four non .com five-figure sales
reported over the past two weeks, all .nets. Those four,
which you saw on the all extension leader board at the top of this
column lead our expanded GC Top 40 chart, followed by another
.net at #5, Snowshoes.net, a name that sold for $8,100
at Sedo. Overall, the .nets swept 28 of the 40 chart positions.
.Org made its first appearance on the board
at #6 with CashLoan.org ($7,500 at Sedo). That was one
of nine .orgs on the elite list. .Info entered the mix with
the first of its three sales, 999.info, landing at #18 . That
name sold for $4,100, also at Sedo. .Biz also took a
bow with #33 (tie) OnlinePoker.biz at $3,000 via Sedo.
The AfternicDLS had the most chart entries overall with 23.
Here's how all of the Global Contenders stacked up for the

As always, we welcome all verifiable sales reports from companies,
private sellers or individuals with knowledge of an important sale
made through any channel. To contribute information and help make
this column better, just drop a note to [email protected].
We truly appreciate the industry leading
companies who share their sales information
with us to help everyone in the business get a handle on current
domain values. Richard
Meyer of Domain Sales Center also provides invaluable help
in collecting data for these sales
reports each week.
Every Tuesday night or Wednesday
morning we publish the highest reported domain name
sales for the previous week. On Mondays and Tuesdays our contributors send us
their sales data for the previous 7 days. We then compile that
information and write this article to give
you the most comprehensive sales report in the industry.
Editor's Note: If you wish to review previous Domain
Sales columns, they are available in our Archive.
