Real
Estate Auction Company's $1.7 Million Purchase of Auction.com Drops
the Hammer on The Past Week's Sales Competition
Irvine, California based real
estate auction company REDCplunked
down $1.7 million to buy Auction.com last week in
2009's third highest domain sale. Only Toys.com at $5.1
million and Fly.com at $1,760,000 have been
bigger.
REDC chairman Robert Friedman said,
"I've wanted this domain for years and I'm thrilled that we
were able to acquire this coveted top level domain. REDC is without
question the number one real estate auctioneer in America and quite
likely the world. This is a domain we should have had from the
beginning and I'm thrilled we are finally Auction.com."
That sale takes the #1 spot on our new weekly
Top 20 Chart, easily outdistancing the runner-up,
LAInsurance.com, a name sold through the AfternicDLS
for $100,000. That domain was purchased by L.A. Insurance,
a Detroit based agency with locations across the country.
By
Ron Jackson
Sedo.com
swept 6 of the next 7 chart positions, starting that run with #3 92.com
at $72,900. A pair of German .de ccTLD domains that
each mean "garden furniture" were next at €50,000 ($67,500)
each. That matched set included Gartenmoebel.de and the IDN
version of the same name, Gartenmöbel.de.
Sedo went on to pile up 13 chart
entries, more than any other venue. Their haul included eight
country code domains, including two more that reached the top ten on
the all extension leader board. Tech.de and a French
ccTLD, Loisirs.fr ("recreation" in French) tied for
#8 after attracting €15,000 ($20,250) each.
.Com took the remaining 12 openings,
leaving the non .com Global TLDs shut out this week. The Afternic
DLS wound up with a trio of Top 20 trophies. The only other venue
with multiple entries was Moniker.com
who closed two more sales from live auction at DOMAINfest Global,
including #10 (tie) Errors.com at $20,000.

Keep in mind that these are the highest
value sales that have been reported to us in the
past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool,
not a complete list documenting ALL high
value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce
because many sales are kept private at the insistence of
buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the
accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.
Forthe many newcomers entering the domain
industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market.
If you do not understand why specific domain names command the
prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases.
We highly recommend that you do some basic research beforeyou buyanything! As a starting point we have
built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.
In addition to scoring the #6 sale on the Top 20

Global Contenders
(.biz, .info, .mobi, .name, .net & .org)
This was a slow week for the non .com Global
Contenders. None of them reached the five-figure mark and they
had no representatives on the all extension leader board we showed
you earlier. Over the past few months the GC's seem to have been
eclipsed by the Country Codes (who produced eight five-figure sales
this week).
Disk.net was able to take the #1 position on
our new GC Top 20 Chart with a $6,733 sale at Sedo, a
venue that swept the first three positions, seven of the first ten
and 12 of 22 overall (the extra positions stemming from a three-way
tie for the final opening).
The .nets had the most chart entries with 14,
followed by .org with 5 and .info with 2 (including a
name that tied for #2, VegasSlotCasino.info, at $6,075).
.Mobi also made an appearance with #11 (tie) Haspa.mobi at
$2,700.
Here's how all of the Global Contenders stacked up for the
week ending March 22:

There were several dozen additional four-figure GC
sales off the chart. Sedo cleared $1,883 for CloudNine.org,
$1,716 for Antenna.net and $1,688 for Supercar.info.
Their roster also included Eicher.net ($1,620) and a pair at $1,500
each; AllPro.org and Harmonia.org.
Tyskland.info located $1,350, Bellen.biz
braked at $1,316 and two others; Flohmarkt.info and BadMoebel.net
notched $1,013 each. Message.mobi made another $1,000.
SnapNames rang up several 3-letter domain sales
including FHF.net ($1,800) and six others at $1,500
apiece; BLC.net, BSL.net, CSH.net, LNM.net,
MML.net and NBL.net. They also moved Documentation.net
and Maintenance.net, also for $1,500 each.
At the AfternicDLS, EUTrade.net and Modco.net
nabbed $1,688 each while RealEstateForclosures.net
added $1,650. SafeTravel.net trucked in $1,388,
Consolidata.net connected for $1,300 and Tarps.info
covered $1,288.
PureMotion.net produced $1,250 while
three others; Dimanche.org, PrintNow.net and Wordy.net
unwrapped $1,100 each. A six-pack at $1,000 apiece
included ACBC.org, AmericanRadio.net, CustomerCare.org,
Mastro.net, ProductLifecycleManagement.net and RiskManager.net.
Afternic sold three others through expanded promotion
listings at Sedo; Kristjan.net ($1,566), Protekt.net
($1,500) and Universita.org ($1,023).
Meanwhile Moniker moved HomeEnergySurvey.org
for $1,075.
Country Codes
The country codes continued to rock this week. We had
eight five-figure ccTLD sales reported , all of which were on the
all extension chart you saw at the top of this
report. The highest sale you haven't seen yet is #9 Steroids.co.uk
at £5,000 ($7,350) via Sedo, a venue that wound up sweeping
all 20 positions on our new Country Code leader board.
Germany's .de had more
entries than any other extension with 9. It was also an
exceptionally strong week for France's .fr extension as
it placed three names in the first ten and had four chart entries
over all.
