Seven-Week Run of Blockbuster Domain Sales Ends But Over 30 Solid Five-Figure Sales Were Booked

After seven straight weeks with at least one six-figure (or higher) domain sale reported, the streak was snapped this week. Still, it was a respectable outing for the domain aftermarket with 32 solid five-figure sales reported. Afternic rang up the two highest of those - Xylem.com at $47,100 and BXE.com at $40,000

Sedo nailed down the #3 slot on our latest weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart with PremierOutlets.com at $26,000. NameJet followed with #4 Meifa.com at $25,655 and they went on to pile up nine of the 22 chart entries (the extra two positions resulted from a two for the final opening).

Afternic rounded out the first five with PatriotSecurity.com at $25,000, giving them three of the week's five biggest sales and five chart entries overall.

Chart honors also went to MostWantedDomains.com for #7 TeethInADay.com at $22,500 and to MissDomain.com for the week's biggest ccTLD sale, #10 Lakrits.se ("licorice" in Swedish)" at $19,341

By Ron Jackson

That was one of three country code domains that qualified for the elite list. Sedo had the other two - #12 MoneyCard.co.uk at $16,001 and #18 Vimla.se at $13,000 - and they went on to rack up six chart entries overall.

The non .com gTLDs were limited to one chart entry - NameJet's $14,000 sale of #17 DWI.org. The .coms swept the rest of the board, ringing up 18 of the 22 charted sales.

While no six-figure (or larger) cash sales were reported this week, George Kirikos uncovered two big domain transactions while going through SEC filings. In one of those from May 2013, he learned that when Move Inc. acquired the business assets of Doorsteps.com for $2.3 million they assigned $1 million of that price to the value of the domain. In another filing from June 2013 George discovered that public company Snap Interactive had acquired the domain name AYI.com for $100,000 in stock to use as an abbreviation for their AreYouInterested.com domain

While we don't consider domains that have been acquired as part of a business, or those purchased with stock or other non-cash instruments, as pure domain sales that we can chart, the valuations provide additional insight into how some corporations value specific domain names. Thanks to George for bringing these to our attention.

Now, here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, August 11:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value cash only sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both.
