Sedo
Posts Year's 2nd Six-Figure Sale to Top This Week's Domain Sales Chart
Sedo
claimed the top spot on this week's Domain Sales Chart after banking
$112,651 for Torrents.com. That is also the second
highest sale of the New Year, trailing only last week's $375,000
sale of Booker.com on our early 2013
Year to Date Sales Chart.
Sedo wound up claiming three of the week's
top five sales and seven of the 21 places on the Big Board (the
extra spot resulted from a tie for the final position). In addition
to #3 EatStreet.com at $44,000 their roster included
the week's biggest ccTLD sale, #5 Compare.to at $23,475.
Frank's Schilling's DomainNameSales
(DNS) also turned in a stellar performance with a hand in eight
charted sales - five on their own and three more shared with DomainAdvisors.com.
#2 FXX.com set the pace for DNS at $60,000 while #4 RoadOne.com
rang up $25,000 and #6 FXX.net (the week's biggest
non .com gTLD sale) notched $19,000. The trio of sales
DNS shared with DomainAdvisors was led by #9 OpenFeed.com at $15,000.
By
Ron Jackson
Afternic.com
was busy ringing the registers too. They put four sales on the elite
list including one of the ten best - #7 Everclear.com at $18,000.
Chart honors also went to WinnerNames.com
who sold #8 UpEntertainment.com for $17,500.
The .coms had their usual dominant
outing, piling up 17 of the 21 chart entries. The ccTLDs followed
with three, including a second top ten entry - #10 Jobb.nu at
$13,300 via Sedo. The non .com gTLDs were limited to the one
spot I noted above (#6 FXX.net).
Here is how the
sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, January 20:

Keep in mind that these are the highest
value cash only sales that have been reported to us in the
past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool,
not a complete list documenting ALL high
value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce
because many sales are kept private at the insistence of
buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the
accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.
Forthe many newcomers entering the domain
industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market.
If you do not understand why specific domain names command the
prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases.
We highly recommend that you do some basic research beforeyou buyanything! As a starting point we have
built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

Country Codes
The ccTLDs were led by the second highest
sale of the New Year in this category, Compare.to (country
code for Tonga) at $23,475 through Sedo. That's just a
little over $300 short of the current ccTLD Year
to Date leader Aandacht.nl ("Attention" in Dutch).
Compare.to and the other two five-figure country code sales you saw
in the all extension section above fill the first three slots on
latest weekly
Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart.
The highest sale ccTLD sale you haven't seen yet is
#4 Register.org.uk, a domain that SellDomains.com
sold for $9,500. Sedo's $8,645 sale of #5 Betrieblichekrankenversicherung.de
(talk about a mouth full!) rounded out the first five. Sedo went
on to sweep 15 of the 20 chart entries.
DomainNameSales claimed a couple of the chart
entries that eluded Sedo's grasp including one that landed on the
top half of the leader board - #6 MTX.co.uk at $8,050.
Germany's .de easily won the extension race
with 7 chart entries. Great Britain's .uk was next with four
(three .co.uks and one .org.uk). Those were the only TLDs with
multiple chart entries. Here is how the country code leaders stacked
