Year's
Biggest ccTLD Sale (the Second Largest .co .uk Sale Ever Reported)
Tops This Week's Domain Sales Chart
This was a great week for country
code domain as the ccTLDs took two of the top three spots
(and six places overall) on our new all extension Top 20 Sales
Chart. The country code charge was led by Sedo's
blockbuster sale of WebHosting.co.uk at $500,000.
That deal, brokered by Sedo's Dave
Evanson (who earlier this month was named winner of the T.R.A.F.F.I.C.
Broker of the Year Award), is the biggest ccTLD sale reported so
far this year, easily eclipsing the previous leader, Saturn.pl,
a name that changed hands for $189,930 in February). This is
also the second highest .co.uk (British ccTLD)sale
ever reported. Only Cruises.co.uk, sold for $1,099,798
in 2008, was higher.
In another major country code sale, Sedo
sold Pizza.at (Austrian ccTLD) for €75,000 ($97,500)
in the third largest .at sale ever reported. The only bigger
ones were Job.at ($590,949 in 2007) and Gay.at ($113,025
in 2011). Pizza.at also now ranks among the seven biggest ccTLD
reported so far in 2012
(the ccTLD YTD Top 100 is the second chart on the page that link
leads to).

Sandwiched between #1 WebHosting.co.uk and
#3 Pizza.at on this week's Big Board is a nice six-figure .com sale
- Cognac.com at $140,000 in a private transaction. Andrew
Allemann uncovered that sale and provided the details in a post
at DomainNameWire.com where he noted that the seller
originally picked the name up for just $88,000 in a 2008
online auction.
Rounding out this week's first five are #4
Calcio.com at $65,000 via Sedo and Afternic's
$60,000 sale of #5 Meechy.com. Those two kicked off a
.com chart run that filled 11 positions in a row. #15 Handy.es
(Spain's ccTLD) finally stopped that streak with a $19,500
sale at Sedo, a venue that accounted for five of the six charted
country code sales.
The non .com gTLDs were limited to
a single representative on the elite list - #20 ManufacturedHomes.net
at $14,000 through Sedo who piled up 12
of the 20 chart entries. Afternic and DomainNameSales
also rang up multiple charts entries with three each. The
DomainNameSales roster was led by #11 FashionDeals.com at $21,000.
Chart honors also went to SuperNiche.com
who sold #12 (tie) GeorgiaRealEstate.com to Chad Wright's
WebQuest Inc. for $20,000. Here is how the sales leaders stacked up for the
week ending Sunday, Oct. 28:

Keep in mind that these are the highest
value sales that have been reported to us in the
past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool,
not a complete list documenting ALL high
value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce
because many sales are kept private at the insistence of
buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the
accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.
Forthe many newcomers entering the domain
industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market.
If you do not understand why specific domain names command the
prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases.
We highly recommend that you do some basic research beforeyou buyanything! As a starting point we have
built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.
There were six more five-figure sales just off
the chart with Sedo accounting for five of those with Abmahnung,de

Country Codes
That landmark $500,000 sale of WebHosting.co.uk
at Sedo headlined another stellar week for the ccTLDs with Pizza.at
just missing six figures and six more coming in with solid
five-figure price tags. You saw all of those sales in the all
extension section above so the biggest ccTLD sale you haven't seen
yet is #9 on our latest
weekly Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. That is Hypotheekadviseurs.nl,
a Dutch domain that drew $7,150 at Sedo.
Rounding out the top ten is a Peruvian domain, Bingo.pe
at $6,435 via Sedo. SexVideos.tv kicked off the second
half of the chart with a $6,000
sale through DNStore.com.
Sedo wound up sweeping 17 of the 20 chart entries. NetFleet.com.au
got one of the places that escaped the Sedo net, picking up $3,275
for #20 SpareParts.com.au.
This was a remarkably diverse week with 14
different extensions earning places on the leader board.
Great Britain's .co.uk had the most with three while
Germany's .de, Belgium's .be and the European
Union's .eu had two each. The remaining 10 spots divided
among 11 different ccTLDs.

that you are not familiar with, you can look up the nation each
extension goes with here.
The non .com
gTLDs were led by a lone five-figure sale - ManufacturedHomes.net
at $14,000 through Sedo. They also took the next
two spots on our new weekly Non .com
gTLD Top 20 Sales Chart with a pair of .infos - #2 Forever.info
at $9,000 and #3 Wechseln.info at $6,188.
Afternic filled out the first five with #4 StrongWomen.org
at $5,577 and DPN.org at $5,200. They went on
to take eight places on the leader board, including five of the top
ten while Sedo bagged a dozen spots on the elite list.
In recent weeks the .nets have been easily
winning the extension race, but the .orgs turned the tables
this week, piling up 11 of the 21 chart entries (the extra spot
resulted from a tie for the final position). The .nets claimed six
rungs on the ladder and .info fetched four.
