Sedo Sells Another High End Domain Extending Industry's Six-Figure Sales Streak to Five Weeks

The domain industry's six-figure sales streak is still alive. Sedo kept it going this week by closing a deal for Bra.com at $165,000 in a transaction handled by their Senior Sales and Brokerage Consultant Dave Evanson. This is the fifth straight week that a six-figure sale has been posted and Dave was the broker behind three of those high end deals with Metal.com ($140,000) and Designers.com ($118,000) preceding his Bra.com sale.

Sedo swept the first three spots on our new all extension Top 20 Sales Chart by ringing up $70,602 for #2 Biba.com and $67,500 for #3 Shadow.com. They went on to pile up 10 of the 20 chart entries, including five of the first six. Moniker/SnapNames interrupted Sedo's  run at the top by selling #4 Vicarious.com for $50,450.

Frank Schilling's DomainNameSales (DNS) also had a strong week with a hand in six charted sales (including one shared with GoDaddyAuctions). #7 JPMM.com led the DNS roster at $29,000

By Ron Jackson

The AfternicDLS also had multiple chart entries, hitting the Daily Double with #13 (tie) ZenSocial.com at $15,000 and #18 CupOfCoffee.com at $12,000. One other venue, Michael Berkens's MostWantedDomains, earned chart honors by moving #13 (tie) BuildingHome.com for $15,000.

The .coms had another dominating outing by taking 15 of 20 positions on the Big Board, however the ccTLDs were also strong with five names on the elite list. Sedo's $25,000 sale of #8 (tie) MSG.me set the pace for the country codes. Sedo accounted for all of five ccTLD sales on the leader board, including a European Union IDN - #17 Casinò.eu at $12,300.

The non .com gTLDs were not as fortunate. With no five figure sales this week they were shut out. The highest sale in that category reached just $6,200 (details in the non .com gTLD section later in this report).

Here is how the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, August 12:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

For the many newcomers entering the domain industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market. If you do not understand why specific domain names command the prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases. We highly recommend that you do some basic research before you buy anything! As a starting point we have built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

Country Codes

The ccTLDs were led by the five five-figure sales you saw on the all extension Top 20 Chart above. The highest sale in this category that you haven't seen yet is #6 on our new weekly Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. That is Joy.tv, a name that sold at Sedo for $7,600

Sedo went on to sweep 16 of the 20 chart entries including the first eight in a row with a run that included #7 ENC.de at $7,380 and #8 FreshFruit.ca at $6,300. Henrik Larsson finally slowed the Sedo juggernaut down by taking #9 with Studsmatta.se ("trampoline" in Swedish) at $4,512 in a private sale. NetFleet.com.au also helped avoid a Sedo monopoly by putting three Australian domains on the leader board with that trio led by #10 HairLossTreatment.com.au at $4,287.

There was a four-way tie in the extension race as  Great Britain's co.uk, Canada's .ca, Germany's .de and Australia's .com.au each took three chart positions. Montenegro's .me and the European Union's .eu claimed two places apiece, leaving four spots to be divided up among four other nations.

Here is how the ccTLD leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, August 12:

Non .com gTLDs (.biz, .info, .mobi, .net, .org, .asia, .pro & .tel)

It was slow going for the non .com gTLDs this week with none from that category reaching five figures. That left the door open for PhotoFun.org to take the top spot on our new Non .Com gTLD Top 20 Sales Chart with a $6,200 sale at the AfternicDLS.

The runner-up slot also went to a .org with Sedo selling #2 Included.org for $5,551. Still, the .nets managed to come from behind to nip the .orgs 10-9 in the extension race. The .net comeback began with #3 Radiance.net at $5,250 and TriNet.net at $5,000, both through the AfternicDLS. A pair of .info sales at Sedo filled the remaining openings (there was an extra position this week due to a tie for the final slot).

The AfternicDLS piled up 14 of the 20 chart entries with Sedo claiming the remaining seven. Here's how all of the Non .Com gTLD leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, August 12:
