Six-Figure Two-Letter .Com Sale Handled By Toby Clements Tops This Week's Sales Chart

The current streak of six-figure domain sales has been extended to three weeks thanks to a nice two-letter .com transaction handled by the Toby Clements Newsletter. Toby moved YG.com for a cool $125,000 to take the top spot on our latest weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart. Clements claimed a second top ten entry with #9 DiamondDistrict.com at $25,000

GoDaddyAuctions claimed the runner-up slot with JustWink.com at $65,000. Why so much for that name? It was purchased by the owners of a well developed website at Just-Wink.com. Getting the un-hyphenated version (that now redirects to their hyphenated site) plugs a big hole that had to be leaking traffic.

GoDaddyAuctions went on  to pile up seven chart entries, more than any other venue. The other six all landed on the second half of the leader board, including the week's biggest non .com gTLD sale - #16 RAK.net at $18,000. That category has one other representative on the elite list - #20 MultipleSclerosis.net at $14,000 via Frank Schilling's DomainNameSales.

By Ron Jackson

The ccTLDs were limited to one charted domain this week but that one crashed the top ten. Sedo scored with #8 GR.ee (country code for Estonia) at $25,830. That was one of three chart entries for Sedo whose roster was led by #3 Expecting.com at $49,999.

Moniker/SnapNames also had multiple chart entries, ringing up four top ten sales (one shared with DomainHoldings.com) led by #4 Trash.com at $44,000. DomainNameSales hit the Daily Double by adding #10 DualCitizenship.com at $24,000 to the .net sale noted above. The AfternicDLS also earned chart honors with #19 1RC.com at $14,200.

Here is how the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, July 29:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

For the many newcomers entering the domain industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market. If you do not understand why specific domain names command the prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases. We highly recommend that you do some basic research before you buy anything! As a starting point we have built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.
