Now
that you have discovered Domain Name Journal, some of
you may be wondering who I am and why I took it upon myself to
publish an electronic trade magazine devoted to this business?
Every
real industry has its own professional “trade publication” and I
felt the domain name industry was ready for one of its own. So
Domain Name Journal was created and went online Jan. 1, 2003. The
publication has enjoyed rapid growth since then thanks to he
terrific co-operation and support we have received from key
individuals and companies throughout the industry.
As
someone who has always loved language, this industry holds a
powerful fascination for me.
Imagine - a business built entirely upon words
– what more could you ask for! Though I had barely graduated from
newbie status as a domain reseller when I began DNJ, I did bring an extensive
background in media and business creation/ownership to the table.
That has helped me in gathering industry
information and presenting it to you on a site that I am hopeful
every one will find to be a valuable resource.
For
those who are interested, here is a brief summary of how I arrived
at this point. After majoring in broadcast journalism I began my
career as a radio news director at a small station in Ohio. Within a
couple of years I moved on to television as a news reporter with an
ABC-TV affiliate in Florida. Two years after arriving there I became
the station’s Sports Director when the SD moved on to a bigger
market. I later moved on to a Top 20 market myself, doing sports
for the CBS-TV station in Tampa.
After
20 years in radio/TV I decided I wanted to start my own business and
opened a series of record stores, an antique shop and various
internet ventures. I bought my first domain name in 1997 and put my
first site online at that time (musicparadise.com).
In early 2002 I was looking for additional names for my internet
projects when I stumbled upon this business. The rest is not
history, but rather just the beginning of what I hope will be a long
history in this industry.
The
domain name business has gone through a major shakeout with the
pricking of the internet bubble, but I believe this is a very
exciting time. Things are changing rapidly and there are always
opportunities in such an environment if you just keep your eyes open
for them.
Though
none of us can predict the future, one thing is for sure - there
will be no shortage of news, prospects and people to talk about! We intend to be here to do just that.
Sincerely,
Ron
