The last couple of
weeks have been exciting ones for the domain aftermarket.
Solid sales were already rolling in at the fastest clip
we've seen this year when we broke the news Tuesday (April
16) about the historic $15.5
million price paid for Chat.com in 2023. That is
the second highest publicly reported domain sale on record,
trailing only Voice.com at $30 million (our all
time Top 20 list is here). While that sale was a
year ago, it is recent enough and jaw-dropping enough to open
a lot more eyes to how extraordinarily valuable top tier
domain names can be.

Larry
Fischer helped Hubspot
Co-Founder and CTO Dharmesh Shah acquire Chat.com, a
name that has now been placed at the top of the 2023
Top 100 Sales Chart in our Domain
Sales Archive. There is another interesting note
about that sale that wasn't in our story. Larry Fischer
pointed out that this was the second time he was
involved in the sale of Chat.com as he helped another buyer
acquire the domain form CBS back in 2014! Andrew Miller
(who will be profiled in the next DNJournal Cover Story), is
also no stranger to sales at this level having had a hand in
over $600 million worth of sales over the years.
Now
let's look at some more good news - sales reported over the
past two weeks. A $1.2 million sale of TP.com -
the biggest publicly reported sale of the
year to date - tops that list (as well as our
latest all extension Top 20 Sales Chart). This is also
the first seven-figure sale to be reported this year. TP.com
is a huge upgrade for the buyer, digital services company Teleperformance.
Elliot Silver at DomainInvesting.com
was the first to break that
news and Elliot also uncovered one of the three
six-figures sales on our new chart - #4 Sandbagger.com
at $100,000. Both of those sales were made through Afternic.

Sandwiched
between those was a solid $275,000 sale of #2 Galatea.com
by James Booth at DomainBooth.com
and a $234,000 sale of #3 ALA.com that
went through SquadHelp - the company naming and
branding powerhouse that just rebranded
itself to today as Atom, complete with a
shiny new ultra premium web address at Atom.com.
While
.coms swept the top four spots, the .ai ccTLD
continues to be red hot, led this week by the $94,900
sale of Invent.ai reported by Namecheap.
That was one of six .ai domains that crashed the Big
Board. The ccTLDs got another impressive entry from a Irex.ca's
CAD 76,557 ($55,121) sale of a Canadian beauty,
#12 Buy.ca.
The non
.com gTLDs were limited to two spots, both .orgs,
but one of those, #6 Miami.org at $90,000, is
one of the three biggest sales made in this category so far
this year. It was yet another standout sale from Sedo
Premium Broker Mark Ghoriafi who also holds the year's
second biggest sale to date, regardless of category, in
Bagels.com at $500,000 (it was the #1 sale prior to that
TP.com blockbuster this week).

While .com
has a lot more competition these days, the world's most
popular TLD's reign as King of the Hill remains firmly intact.
The .coms piled up 12 of the 21 chart entries overall. NameJet,
SnapNames
and SecretBrokerage.com
were among those contributing to the .com cause
(SecretBrokerage also took a dip in the .ai pool, joining CryptoExchange.com
in closing the #19 sale of Baby.ai).
