Mega Sale of Medidata.com Tops This Week's Domain Sales Chart and Ranks #3 Year to Date

Master domain sales sleuth George Kirikos uncovered another blockbuster this week - a $600,000 purchase of the domain Medidata.com made by public company Medidata Solutions Inc., a provider of cloud-based software solutions for clinical research in life sciences. Kirikos reported the sale, made in the first quarter of this year, in a post on his recently launched FreeSpeech.com blog. As he has done so many times in the past, Kirikos uncovered the sale while examining an SEC filing (page 14) made by the company. Over the years we have sent so many hat tips George's way for finding eye popping sales, we probably should just give him the hat!

In addition to topping our latest week's all extension Top 20 Sales Chart, Medidata.com now ranks #3 on our Year to Date Top 100 Sales Chart. It is also one of biggest sales of a "coined term" domain (this one a merging of the words medical and data) that we've ever seen.

Sedo filled the next two spots on this week's leader board with Presale.com at $45,444 and the week's biggest ccTLD sale, Hero.eu at $32,480. Rounding out the first five are ApexMoon.com's $30,000 sale of Druid.com and a $27,000 sale of Atiko.com made through Michael Mann's DomainMarket.com.

By Ron Jackson

The .coms swept 14 of the 20 chart entries with the ccTLDs and non .com gTLDs claiming thee slots each. Two of those country code sales settled in the first six after OptimalNames.com moved Voice.io for $25,000 via GoDaddy. Sedo accounted for all three of the non. com gTLDs names on the Big Board with #13 (tie) Happy.info at $10,000 leading that trio. Sedo hit the honor roll like a hurricane, piling up 16 of the 20 entries overall including a sweep of the final 14 entries.

Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Country Codes

The ccTLDs were, of course, led by that trio of sales you saw on the all extension leader board at the top of this report, with Sedo's $32,480 sale of Hero.eu setting the pace. That is also one of the top 10 country code sales reported so far this year (ranking #10 on our ccTLD YTD Top 100 Sales Chart).

Still, it was a relatively slow week for the ccTLDs overall with only 11 sales reported from this group. The biggest one you haven't seen yet is #4 on our latest Country Code Top Sales Chart. That is Sedo's $5,600 sale of FixIt.be. They also rounded out the first five with RowingBlazers.mx at $5,000.
