$550,000 Domain Tops This Week's Sales Chart - Another Deal Near $1 Million Revealed After NDA Expires

This week it was all about quality, rather than quantity. In a typically slow summer week not many sales were reported but there were still some big numbers at the top of our latest weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart. The pacesetter was BestWeb.com's $550,000 sale of Inception. com. In addition to reaching the summit on the weekly leader board that also ranks as the 4th biggest sale reported so far this year

Sedo put another six-figure sale in the runner-up slot, ringing up $130,000 for NBX.com. They went on to sweep 18 of the 20 chart entries including 12 of the 13 .com sales, all five of the ccTLD sales and the largest of the two non .com gTLDs on the Big Board.

Michael Gargiulo

In another big piece of domain sales news, we have learned the price paid for VPN.com in a private transaction that was made under an NDA in January 2017. The buyer, Michael Gargiulo, who now serves as the CEO of the company operating the site, informed us that the 18-month NDA has expired allowing him to reveal that he paid $976,730 for the domain (a price confirmed by documentation he provided). The fact that Michael had purchased the domain was widely-known. DomainNameWire had a report on it last year and this past April DomainSherpa aired an
interview with Michael about the $2 million he has poured into developing the domain. Now we have the exact paid which allowed us to add the sale to our 2017 Top 100 Sales Chart where it ranks as the 7th biggest reported sale of last year.

Getting back to this week's sales, #6 Feel-the-Flow.de led the quintet of country code sales on the elite list, changing hands for $14,625 at Sedo. Even though hyphens are popular in Germany that will still strike many as a high price for a double-hyphenated 3-word domain. It makes more sense when you visit the domain and see that a major German corporation, Bosch, wanted the domain to use as a redirect to a folder on their Bosch-Ebike.com website that uses the "Feel the Flow" tagline.

As I noted, the non .com gTLDs were limited to two chart entries. The highest of those was Sedo's $10,000 sale of #8 (tie) Reward.net. The .GLOBAL Registry logged the other one - booking $8,000 for #12 (tie) Awakening.global.
