Garry Chernoff Rings the Bell Again - Takes Top Spot on This Week's Sales Chart with One of the Year's 10 Biggest Domain Sales

When I started publishing DNJournal over 15 years ago, domain industry pioneer Garry Chernoff already had a long record of big domain sales under his belt and the trail blazing Canadian is still making them today. Garry pays his latest visit to the top of our all extension Top 20 Sales Chart this week after closing a $300,000 deal for Signet.com through Afternic.com brokerage services. That also ranks as one of the 10 biggest sales reported so far in 2018. Don't be surprised if Garry tops himself before the year is out (even if he can't report it - at this level a lot of buyers insist on keeping the amount they paid private).

With Garry on the top rung of the ladder it seems appropriate to see a Canadian ccTLD in the runner-up slot. That was Sedo's $50,000 sale of Ampli.ca. That was one six country code domains to crash the Big Board - and Sedo accounted for every one of them en route to sweeping 15 of the 20 chart entries. They also accounted for 7 of the 13 .com sales on the elite list, including two that made the first five - #4 Firehose.com at $35,000 and #5 SongExchange.com at $25,000. Sandwiched in between those Sedo sales was #3 SCU.com at $40,000 in a sale made by boutique investment firm MSN|Cap.

The non .com gTLDs were limited to a single entry and that one went to a new gTLD - the .GLOBAL Registry's $19,000 sale of Do.global.

By Ron Jackson

Chart honors also went to Michael Mann's DomainMarket.com for #9 (tie) LivingOnLight.com at $15,000 (Mann said he originally picked that domain up for $70 in 2012) as well as to Michael Cyger   moved #20 KarPool.com for $6,500 in a private transaction. The DomainSherpa.com founder told me he had acquired the domain in a GoDaddy Auction and was able to flip it for a nice profit just 29 days later - the quickest turn he has had to date.

This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Country Codes

With six representatives on the all extension leader board you saw above it was obviously a good week for the ccTLDs with Ampli.ca leading the way at $50,000. The biggest country code sale you haven't seen yet is #7 on our latest weekly Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. That is Sedo's $6,600 sale of Gin.co.uk.

Sedo wound up piling up 15 of the 18 chart entries including all of the top 10. They rounded out the upper half of the leader board with Reason.co ($5,240), Hummelburg.de ($4,872) and TheCraftory.cn ($4,060).

DomainLore.co.uk collected all three of the chart entries that did not go to Sedo. They scored with #11 Carp.co.uk ($3,930), #12 Hybrid.co.uk ($3,268) and #18 RTL.co.uk ($1,647).
