Millions of Dollars Worth of Previously Unreleased Uniregistry Domain Sales Supercharges the Charts

Domain investors got some welcome news this week when Uniregistry issued a press release revealing their sales results for the first eight months of this year. They reported closing over $29 million worth of sales in that time frame and followed the release by sharing millions of dollars worth of specific names and prices to those of us who report on domain aftermarket activity.

As you know, we report weekly public sales results in this column but those are just the tip of the iceberg. In 2017 we've seen a lot of weeks that appeared to be slow on the surface but the new information from Uniregistry (that all should applaud them for making available) shows that sizeable sales are being made behind the scenes day in and day out (Uniregistry reported closing more than 3,600 sales since January 1).

Whenever current year sales are released we chart eligible sales in the week the information first comes to light. That allowed Uniregistry to make a clean sweep of this week's all extension Top 20 Sales Chart (the big release is  obviously advantageous this week but waiting to release so much at once (which is how they have historically done it) also means they gave up visibility on the 2017 charts until now, so it all evens out).

By Ron Jackson

More than 2,100 of the specific sales Uniregistry shared fall within the range of sales we track which is $2,000 and above for .com domains and $1,000 and up for all other extensions. I will sum up the cream of the crop in this column but am also making the complete list of those sales available to you in a Word document that you can access here

The treasure trove of data includes a half-dozen six-figure sales that top our latest leader board. Kombucha.com set the pace at $200,000 in a sale that also ranks among the year's 20 biggest sales to date. Kombucha.com was followed by Squeeze.com at $150,000, Hebe.com at $125,000 and MasterPlan.com at $117,650. Rounding out the sextet are RRA.com and UsedCarsForSale.com at $100,000 each

The .coms went on to sweep 22 of the 24 chart entries (the extra spots resulted from a five-way tie for the final position). The only exceptions were a pair of .nets - #12 (tie) Odds.net at $70,000 and #20 (tie) Juegos.net at $60,000.

Keep in mind that these are the highest value cash only sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

Country Codes

The ccTLDs also benefited from Uniregistry's data release which produced 16 entries on our latest Country Code Top Sales Chart, including all of the top five. The pacesetter was AutoLoan.ca at $29,000 followed by a pair of $24,000 sales featuring Native.co.uk and Tow.co. Rounding out the first five are Triangle.ca at $15,000 and Kaizin.co.uk at $14,000.

Sedo, who traditionally dominates the ccTLD category, managed to take four chart entries despite the flood of Uniregistry sales that built up over the past eight months. Their list was led by #6 Iliad.it at $13,090 and #8 Bokrea.se at $11,900.

The extension race wound up in a dead heat with Great Britain's .co.uk and Colombia's .co taking six chart entries each. Canada's .ca was close behind with four. Here is how the country code leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017:

Non .com gTLDs (.net, .org and others, including new gTLDs)

No category needed the good news in the Uniregistry data release more than the non .com gTLDs. They have lagged badly in publicly reported sales this year, but Uniregistry showed some very solid sales have been happening behind the scenes for this group too. Enough so that our latest Non. com gTLD Top Sales Chart is comprised completely of five figure sales. By releasing eight months worth of data at once, Uniregistry also pulled off a complete sweep in this category, as they did on the all extension leader board at the top of this report.

The top three sales - Odds.net at $70,000, Juegos.net at $60,000 and Juice.net at $40,000 - all rank among the year's ten biggest non .com gTLD sales to date. Rounding out the first five are Plant.org at $35,000 and Stripe.net at $30,000.

Four new gTLDs earned places on the elite list, led by #6 (tie) Shop.link at $25,000 and #8 Star.house at $24,980.

The extension race was a close one with the .nets nipped the .orgs 10-9. 23 places were up for grabs due to a five-way tie for the final position. Here is how the non .com gTLD leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017:
