Short and Sweet: 12 of the Week's Top 20 Sales Were 3 Characters or Less

Short domains have always been attractive but over the past couple of years it often seems like buyers eyes are focused almost exclusively on these petite beauties. The past week was a good example with 9 of the 11 biggest sales running just 3 characters long. Eight of those were ever popular 3-letter .coms and the 9th was a 3-character .com - all sold by NameJet who just released all of their November sales. We also saw a trio of single character .at domain sales at Sedo that gave the 3-and-under group a dozen spots on our latest all-extension Top 20 Sales Chart

PEB.com led the pack with a $45,000 sale at NameJet. The runner-up was was barely over 3 characters with 4-digit numeric domain 2869.com coming in at $39,567 at SnapNames. The power trio at the top was completed by the week's biggest ccTLD sale - #3 Lampara.es ("lamp" in Spanish) at $38,520 via Sedo.

The next six in a row were more 3-letter .coms from NameJet, including #4 LAA.com at $35,700. They also closed out the top ten with the 3-character W55.com at $18,666. The .coms wound up piling up 14 entries overall.

The ccTLDs took the remaining six spots, leaving the non .com gTLDs out in the cold. The country code contingent included Sedo's sales of 7.at, X,at and S.at from their November series of three short .at domain auctions.

Non .com gTLDs (.net, .org, .biz, .info & others, including new gTLDs)

After three bleak weeks, the non .com gTLDs finally had enough enough sales to fill a Top 20 Chart thanks to NameJet releasing their November results. The prices still weren't high enough to crack the all extension leader board but at this point all four-figure sales in this group are a welcome sight. Officer.org led the way with a $5,000 sale at NameJet where 18 of the 20 chart entries were sold.

Sedo accounted for the other two and both of those ranked among the three biggest sales in this category. They got $4,999 for runner-up Forex.trading (a new gTLD) and $4,500 for #3 Accredited.org

Still, the leader board was dominated by 3-letter .nets with that group sweeping 15 of the 20 chart entries with #5 XCB.net leading the way at $3,012. Here is how the non .com gTLD sales stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016:
