Two-Letter .Com Sells for Over $3.7 Million in the Year's Highest Reported Sale to Date

With just one month left in the 2016 sales season we have a new king of the hill. In the biggest domain sale reported so far this year,  Chinese wine company WanJiaHuanGou laid out CNY ¥26,000,000 ($3,770,000) to acquire HG.com  in a private transaction. The sale easily eclipsed previous leader Vivo.com, a name that just took the top spot three weeks ago with a $2.1 million sale. HG.com also takes a spot on our All-Time Top 20 Domain Sales chart as the 12th biggest sale reported since we started tracking and verifying aftermarket sales in 2003.

HG.com (which stands for HuanGou) currently redirects to the company's website at WJHGW.com. Obviously HG.com gives the firm a massive step up from the unwieldy 5-letter acronym that has been their online home.

While no other sale came close to HG.com on our latest weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart, the runner up was still noteworthy. Undeveloped.com sold new gTLD Auto.loan for $45,000, claiming the #2 slot with a perfect keyword-extension match.  A pair of .coms followed with Sedo selling #3 Sanwa.com for $31,500 and Flippa moving #4 SMSMarketing.com for $20,000.

By Ron Jackson

The ccTLDs made their first appearance at #5 where another Undeveloped.com sale - Telefoonhoesjes.be ("phone cases" in Dutch) tied Sedo's sale of PrimoTV.com at $18,000 each. The country codes went on to pile up eight chart entries overall, six of those coming from Sedo's recent auctions of ultra-short Austrian .AT domains, including three one-letter domains that reached the top half of the elite list. Sedo also sold #19 New.us for $8,400.

The non .com gTLDs were limited to two entries - both new gTLDs. #18 Laptop.review joined Auto.loan on the Big Board with an $8,500 sale at Undeveloped.com.

The .coms swept everything else including SnapNames.com's timely sale of #7 Fidel.com at $17,000. Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, November 27, 2016:

Non .com gTLDs (.net, .org, .biz, .info & others, including new gTLDs)

The non .com gTLDs still seem to be running on fumes. Only four sales were reported for this entire category and that comes on the heels of two consecutive weeks with only eight reported sales per week. In all, 20 sales in three weeks - barely enough to fill one Top 20 chart.

On the plus side, the group did yield the week's 2nd biggest sale in Auto.loan at $45,000. We also should see a bump up in the number of sales next week when NameJet will likely release all of their November sales. Another damper on the past week was the fact that it was cut very short, business wise, by the Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S. Many had only a 3-day work week as a result.

Here is how the non .com gTLD sales stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016:
