Summer Doldrums Are Here - Year's Slowest Sales Week Arrives Just Ahead of Labor Day Weekend

The Labor Day weekend - a signpost that many Americans regard as the unofficial end of summer - starts Saturday and runs through the actual national holiday Monday (September 5). Some people stretch the break out even longer for one final blowout before the kids are all back in school and the summer vacation season is finally over. That - and the fact that summer is typically the slowest sales season for domains - produced the fewest sales we've seen reported in a single week this year.

Only seven reached five figures with Shelly.com able to claim the top spot on our latest all extension Top 20 Sales Chart at $35,000. The sale was made by brokers Erwan Kina (MAM.com) and Sharjil Saleem (AEServer.com) with the buyer coming in from a NameJet landing page. Sedo filled the next  two slots with Datamesh,.com at $25,000 and the week's highest ccTLD sale, Cycle.in at $16,500.

Rounding out the first five are #4 Hili.com, sold by Keith Antoon in a private transaction for $12,000 and #5 StyleBooks.com at $11,995 via Sedo.

The .coms piled up 12 of the 20 chart entries with Sedo booking nine of those. Rupii.com booked one of the others - #12 GUSX.com at $6,250. The country code domains were next with five charted sales, including #6 PornoItalia.it at $11,199 via Sedo. That left three spots for non .com gTLDs with that group led by #8 EHF.org ($9,888 at Sedo). The other two were .nets including #13 VBET.net at $5,800 through OnlineBettingSolutions.com

Keep in mind that these are the highest value cash only sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Country Codes

The ccTLDs were led by the five sales you saw on the all extension leader board above with two of those reaching five figures - Cycle.in at $16,500 and PornoItalia.it at $11,199 (both via Sedo). The highest sale in this category that you haven't seen yet is #6 on our latest weekly Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. That is Alameda.cl, a domain that Sedo sold for $4,500.

Only 14 sales were reported for the entire category and Sedo swept 13 of those. The exception was #11 Butchers.co.uk at $3,020 through DomainLore.co.uk.

Germany's .de won the extension race with four chart entries. No other TLD had more than one. Here is how the country code leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, August 28, 2016:
