Top 3 Names on This Week's Sales Chart Total $1.35 Million - All Are 3-Digit or 3-Letter Domains

If you "go short" in most markets you are betting prices will go down. The domain market is just the opposite with prices for short .com domains continuing to sell at nosebleed levels. This year's darlings have been 3-letter or 3-digit domains (2, of course, is even better). The same held true this week with 588.com changing hands for $1 million on China's popular 4.cn platform, as reported earlier this week at TheDomains. In addition to topping this week's all extension Top 20 Sales Chart that ties for the second highest sale reported so far this year

That wasn't the only short .com blockbuster this week either. Larry Fischer's GetYourDomain.com brokered a $200,000 sale of #2 OBE.com on behalf of seller Anything.com - and Tracy Fogarty's eNaming.com scored big with #3 419.com at $150,000

You may have also heard about a big .co.uk sale this past week when a press release came out claiming Gold.co.uk had been purchased for £600,000 ($912,000 at today's exchange rate). We haven't seen any documentation of the price paid that would allow us to chart the name and, as Kevin Murphy reported at DomainIncite.com, the name hasn't changed hands since 2014, so it is not a new sale (the release was apparently meant to promote a new website built on the name). That being the case, if we can verify the price, we would add it to our 2014 Top 100 List rather than any of this year's charts. It is certainly a great domain and I'm not questioning it's worth, only giving you the reason we can't chart it at this point in time.

Back on the current sales front, it was a big week for the .coms who swept the entire top ten, including #4 with Flippa.com's $75,000 sale of Jiujitsu.com and #5 with Sedo's $44,000 sale of V68.com - one of the highest prices we've ever seen for a 3-character .com with a letter-number mix. Flippa also chalked up another one for the 3-letter .coms, selling #9 QEI.com for $14,500.

The non .com gTLDs took two places on the Big Board, one with a traditional extension and the other with a new gTLD. Sedo sold #11 TGL.net for $11,200 while Jeff Williams moved #13 (tie) Games.guru for $10,000.

The ccTLDs took more spots, four overall, but at lower prices. Sedo booked two of those - #16 Tutu.de at $7,616 and #19 LotterySyndicate.co.uk at $6,990 and ExcellentDomains.ca posted the other two - #17 LJM.ca at $7,119 and #20 Joyce.ca at $6,899. By the way, ExcellentDomains.ca is owned by Canadian domain pioneer Ilze Kaulins-Plaskacz, who we profiled in a new Cover Story that just came out - Ilze's Odyssey: How a Daughter of Latvian Immigrants Wound Up Rocking the Domain World. Ilze's is an extraordinary personal and business story, so if you haven't checked that out yet, I highly recommended it.

This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Country Codes

No five-figure sales were reported in the ccTLD category this week but they had a lot of solid four-figure sales including the four you saw on the all-extension leader board above. The highest sale from this group that you haven't seen yet is #5 on our latest  Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. That is Sedo's $6,800 sale of Kyboe.cn

Sedo went on to sweep 14 of the 20 chart entries, including #6 SUP.de at $6,664. ExcellentDomains.ca also had an excellent outing with five charted sales including two of the top four and another one in the top ten -  #7 AEC.ca at $6,468. Park.io also earned chart honors with #16 (tie) First.io selling for $3,500 there.

Germany's .de and Canada's .ca wound up in a dead heat in the extension race with each claiming five chart entries. The only other TLD with more than one was the European Union's .eu with two. Here is how the country code leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 20:
