Two of the Ten Biggest Sales Reported So Far This Year Take Top Spots on Our Latest Chart

We have some catching up to do this week. I have been away for a funeral and a previously scheduled vacation so there was no sales column last week. This week I'll bring you completely up to date with all sales that have come in since my last report two weeks ago - and there have been some very good ones since then. In fact, two of the year's ten biggest sales to date were posted in the past fortnight.

Leading the charge was PX.com at a cool $1 million - only the second seven-figure sale reported so far in 2015. The news of that sale came just after the deadline for our last column. MediaOptions sold the domain to lead generation company ReviMedia for the cash and some unnamed additional considerations (we do not include any non-cash considerations in the sales we chart as those are often based on future performance that can cause the final value of those considerations to vary dramatically).

By Ron Jackson

The other big sale just became official this week when SnapNames informed us they have closed the $480,000 sale of 358.com. The amazing  thing about this one is that this was a dropped domain - the previous owner failed to renew it (at this point we don't know why that happened). This is the second biggest numeric domain sale reported so far this year, trailing only 345.com - a name that MostWantedDomains sold for $800,000 in January. Speaking of MWD - the company (owned by Michael Berkens) is back on the chart this week with #8 TheRake.com at $42,000

SnapNames wound up taking two of the top there spots, also scoring with #3 Projects.com at $82,550. That domain, along with Guta.com's $ $63,000 sale of #5 Scarf.com helped the .coms sweep 18 of the 20 chart entries. In our last report the headline noted "Non .Coms Continued to Make Their Presence Known" but his week - not so much. The only exceptions to the .com rule on the latest elite list is a pair of non .com gTLDs - the biggest of those a new gTLD - #4 Y.top at $78,500 via Chinese registrar Jiangsu Bangning. #17 Degrees.net also helped keep the .coms from running the table with a $16,500 sale at NameJet

It was surprising to not only see no ccTLDs on the Big Board, but none that even broke five figures. That is very unusual over a two-week time span. The highest sale reported in the country code  category was JJ.de at $7,521 via Sedo. While the ccTLDs didn't have a lot to celebrate, Sedo did - taking seven places on the chart, led by #8 SGJ.com at $31,500. That is one of four 3-letter .coms (plus a 3-digit .com) on the leader board as those short acronyms continue to draw buyers.

In addition to the venues already mentioned, Tracy Fogarty's eNaming.com earned chart honors this week with the $30,000 sale of #9 Aitch.com

Here is how the sales leaders stacked up for the two weeks ending Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value cash only sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

Country Codes

As I noted at the top of this article, it was an unusually slow couple of weeks for the cTLDs with no five-figure sales reported in this category. That allowed JJ.de to take the #1 position on our latest  Country Code Top 20 Chart with a $7,521 sale at Sedo, a venue that swept the top ten and took 18 of 20 places overall.

Close behind were #2 Easy.eu at $7,280 and FFF.cc at $7,000. A pair of German domains rounded out the first five with Einkommen.de and Weed.de selling for $5,712 each

Park.io is the only venue other than Sedo on the leader board. They scored with #11 Diary.io at $4,750 and #17 Frank.ly at $3,550.

Germany's .de won the extension race with four chart entries, nipping the European Union's .eu and Colombia's .co that had three apiece.  Here is how the country code leaders stacked up for the two weeks ending Sunday, Sept. 6:

Non .com gTLDs (.net, .org, .biz, .info & others, including new gTLDs)

The Non .Com gTLDs were led by one of the year's six biggest sales in this category - Y.top at $78,500 via Jiangsu Bangning. The .top new gTLD has been doing well in China with several nice sales recorded in recent weeks. The next two names on our latest Non .Com gTLD Top 20 Sales Chart also reached five figures with #2 Degrees.net drawing $16,500 at NameJet and #3 Data.world (another new gTLD) adding $10,000 in a private transaction.

Two short domains rounded out the first five with Sedo selling #4 238.net for $9,130 and NameJet moving #5 LX.org for $8,500. .CLUB had a nice outing with a half dozen chart entries that came from premium sales made through a variety of registrars. The highest of those was 101Domain.com's $7,095 sale of #6 Super.club.

That was enough to give .CLUB a win in the extension race nipping the five entries posted by the .orgs.  Here's how all of the Non .Com gTLD leaders stacked up for the two weeks ending Sunday, Sept. 6:
