A Half Dozen 6-Figure Sales (Five of Them Chinese ccTLDs) Lead Another Big Week for the Domain Market

You have to love the fast start the domain market has gotten off to in 2014. In yet another big week, a half dozen six-figure sales were reported with five of those coming from deals that continue to close from the recent .CN Registry auction staged by eName.com. Our friend George Hong from Guta.com has helped us track those auction sales to make sure each one we report has successfully closed.

George tells us there has been a major run on ultra-short two and three-letter domains among Chinese businesses that want shorter forms of their current web address. This week's leader of the pack -  LB.cn at 1,100,000 CNY ($176,000) - is a perfect example of that.  The name was bought by the Jinshan Network who created the LieBao (cheetah) web browser. That is a fairly short domain as it is but LB.cn gives them an even more compact address (another prominent example is JingDong.com, a top 25 site in China who recently rebranded themselves as JD.com).

By Ron Jackson

Two of the other four big CCNIC/eName auctions sales completed this week were also two-letter domains - ME.cn at $147,200 and AI.cn at $130,560. The remaining pair went for even more  with #2 One.cn selling for $160,640 and #3 Shop.cn bagging $160,320. Sandwiched in between all of those Chinese ccTLD sales was a big sale at NameJet where #4 LIU.com changed hands for $155,688.

Continuing the short acronym trend were two other three-letter.coms - #7 BAK.com at $50,100 via NameJet and #14 BTB.com at $38,350 through Sedo. Three other .coms on the leader board have just four letters. The .coms went on to sweep 14 of the 20 entries overall. The other six spots all went to ccTLDs with #19 Sandwich.co ($18,000 at Sedo) joining the five Chinese ccTLDs on the elite list. That left the non .com gTLDs out in the cold.

Two other venues joined eName, NameJet and Sedo on the Big Board. Go Daddy/Afternic hit the Daily Double with #13 Spokes.com at $40,000 and #18 RateWorld.com at $20,000. Michael Berkens's  MostWantedDomains.com also scored with #16 LoveYourJob.com at $22,500.

Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 2:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value cash only sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Country Codes

The ccTLDs just had what was probably their best week ever (in terms of reported sales) with five six-figure sales and another five in five figures. Those ten names, led by the five Chinese ccTLD domains we talked about at the top of this report, fill the upper half of our latest Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. All ten were listed in the all extension section above, so the highest sales from this category that you haven't seen yet are a pair of .co domains that just missed the five-figure mark, going for $9,999 each at Go Daddy/Afternic. Those were Picnic.co and Random.co.

Sedo had the most chart entries with ten, led by three on the top half of the elite list and followed by seven others including #13 Loftadders.co.uk  at $8,721

With those five blockbusters at the top of the chart China's .cn led the extension race with six names on the leader board. Colombia's .co followed with three while Canada's .ca, Great Britain's .co.uk and Tuvalu's .tv each had two. Here is how the country code leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 2:

Non .com gTLDs (.biz, .info, .mobi, .net, .org, .asia, .pro & .tel)

The non .com gTLDs had to be looking at the .coms and ccTLDs with some envy this week as those categories had blowout performances. The non .com gTLDs were limited to a single five-figure sale - Singular.net at $13,400 via Sedo, giving that name the top spot on our latest Non .Com gTLD Top 20 Sales Chart

The .nets swept the first three spots with #2 Classified.net collecting $7,800 through NameJet and #3 Arm.net nabbing $5,535 at Sedo. Rounding out the first five are #4 Labels.info ($5,500 at Sedo) and a pair of $5,000 sales that tied for #5 - APR.net (sold at NameJet) and Grafeno.org (sold through Sedo).

The .nets easily won the extension race, piling up 12 chart entries. .Org was next with six and .info had two. Here's how all of the Non .Com gTLD leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 2:
