3-Letter .Com Sells for 6 Figures to Top This Week's Domain Sales Chart

For the second time since 2009, RSS.com has changed hands for six figures. In October 2009 Ron Sheridan picked up the domain for $125,000 via Sedo. This year Sheridan, who is involved in several other start up businesses including Pixt.com, decided RSS.com no longer fit into his plans so this past week he sold it in a private transaction for $135,000. That was more than enough to take the top spot on our latest weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart.

Sedo claimed the runner-up position with VideoShop.com at $46,200 and they went on to pile 11 of the 20 chart entries, including 7 of the top 10. Sedo accounted for all three of the ccTLDs that made the elite list. All three were French domains that landed on the top half of the leader board, led by two that tied for #4 - Beaute.fr and Beauté. fr  (IDN)- at $23,298 each. #8 Syndic.fr rounded out the country code trio at $17,160.

By Ron Jackson

Afternic also had a big week, claiming seven chart entries with a roster led by #3 LightArt.com at $32,000. All of the Afternic entries were .com domains, including #6 SHRS.com at $18,500. That was one of five four-letter .coms on the Big Board, the most ever at one time from that category.

The .coms wound up sweeping 16 of the 20 chart entries, including one posted by WinnerNames - #11 SocialGator.com at $13,500

The non .com gTLDs were limited to a single entry - Sedo's $14,500 sale of #10 KH.org.

Before we go to the charts, in case you missed it, I wanted to point out that our latest monthly newsletter has a breakdown of sales data for the 2nd quarter of 2013 and it confirms that we are seeing a nice turnaround in several areas of the domain market. You can read the full report here.

Now, here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, July 21:

This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both.
