Blockbuster Sale of 114.com Takes Top Spot on Our Weekly Top 20 and Year-to-Date Top 100 Sales Charts

As we told you in our Lowdown section Tuesday (July 9), the first 7-figure domain sale reported in 2013 has been completed with 114.com changing hands for $2.1 million in a private transaction. That is more than four times higher than the year's previous leader - Brand.com at $500,000 in a sale that was reported just last week.

114.com was purchased by a Chinese company through a representative based in New York City. It's the highest numeric domain sale reported since we started tracking the aftermarket ten years ago. This is no ordinary numeric domain though. 114 has special meaning in China as the numbers signifies "information" and can even be used to call in restaurant and hotel reservations.

114.com, of course, headlines our latest weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart, as well as our Year-to-Date Top 100 Chart. Ironically, the blockbuster sale came in what was an otherwise slow week - one that was shortened to just 3 days for most American businesses as the nation paused to celebrate one of its biggest holidays - Independence Day, July 4.  With the 4th falling on Thursday this year, many took Friday off as well to make a four-day weekend of it.

By Ron Jackson

As a result, only ten five-figure sales (and none at six figures) accompanied that huge 114.com sale. Hilco IP Auctions did report that they closed a $150,000 sale that included Bargain.com, but it was part of a two-domain lot (auctioned off in May) that also included the common typo Bargin.com. Since we can only chart sales of individual domains that allowed Sedo to claim the #2 spot on the chart with LiveSafe.com at $65,000

MostWantedDomains.com rounded out the first three with #3 WhiteSale.com at $36,000. They also sold #6 CriminalDefense.net through Sedo for $16,500 in the week's biggest non .com gTLD sale (one of three chart entries for that category).

The ccTLDs did even better, putting four domains on the elite list led by Sedo's $23,220 sale of #4 Speck.de. Another country code, domain, #8 Lighting.com.au, reached the top half of the leader board with a $15,060 sale at NetFleet.com.au

Sedo wound up having a hand in 14 of the 20 charted sales to lead all venues. Afternic also rang up multiple chart entries with a trio led by #7 BayCare.com at $15,250. Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, July 7:
