First
Week of the 2013 Domain Sales Season Finds Trio of
DomainNameSales.com Transactions at Top of the Chart
And they're off! The 2013
domain sales season is officially underway with the first week of
data in from popular aftermarket venues, private buyers and sellers.
With the past week shortened by the New Year's Eve/New Year's Day
holiday, overall opening week sales were understandably light. There
were no six-figure sales reported but DomainNameSales.com
(DNS) logged a trio of solid five-figure sales that fill the first
three slots on our new weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart.
DNS put NGames.com in the top slot
at $50,000, followed by #2 TEMT.com at $45,000
and #3 Bizy.com at $40,500. Sedo
then reeled in the next six chart entries in a row with their roster
led by the week's two biggest country code sales - #4 Aandacht.nl
(a Dutch ccTLD that means "attention" in English) at $23,777
and #5 Host.de, a German ccTLD that drew $19,650. Sedo
piled up 10 charted sales overall.

Afternic.com
also had a very solid outing, putting five domains on the elite list
led by the pair that completed the top ten - Audioteka.com and
DesignerAccess.com at $12,000 each. Afternic, Sedo and
DomainNameSales (with five charted names) were the only venues that
claimed multiple chart entries, but NetFleet.com.au
got on the board with #17 Liqueur.com.au at $9,063 as
did Jeff Williams after he sold #20 (tie)下载.中国 (a
Chinese IDN ccTLD translates to Download.china) for $8,000
in a private transaction.
.Coms wound up sweeping 16 of the
22 chart entries (the extra spots resulted from a three-way tie for
the final position). The remaining six slots all went to ccTLDs,
including two more top ten entries - #7 Sixt.cn at $17,030
and #9 WorkingAbroad.co.uk at $12,880, with both of
those sold at Sedo. The non .com gTLDs were shut out this
week as the highest sale in that category was just over $7,200
(details on that are in the Non .com gTLD section later in this
report).
While no blockbuster sales were reported
this week, we already know that will not be the case
nextweek. Our weekly columns cover sales completed over the
seven-day period that ends with the Sunday preceding our Wednesday
reports. Today it was reported
that Major League Baseball purchased the domain name Rockies.com (to represent
MLB's Colorado Rockies) for $1.2 million. If verified,
that sale
will be eligible for next week's chart and, with only two
seven-figure sales reported in all
of 2012, it would almost certainly top our next weekly
leader board and get the first month of the new year off to a
rousing start. (Update: On Jan.
9 an MLB
official said the $1.2 million price reportedly paid for
Rockies.com was not accurate. He did not say what the sale
price was noting that it was under a non-disclosure agreement.
The sale will not be eligible four our charts as a result).

sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, January 6:

Keep in mind that these are the highest
value cash only sales that have been reported to us in the
past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool,
not a complete list documenting ALL high
value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce
because many sales are kept private at the insistence of
buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the
accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.
Forthe many newcomers entering the domain
industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market.
If you do not understand why specific domain names command the
prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases.
We highly recommend that you do some basic research beforeyou buyanything! As a starting point we have
built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

The ccTLDs got the new year off to a good
start with a quartet of five-figure
sales among the seven country code transactions that made the all
extension leader board you saw at the top of this report. The
highest ccTLD sale you haven't seen yet is #8 on our new weekly
Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart - that is CarteDeCredit.fr,
a French domain that changed hands for $6,943 at Sedo.
Sedo rounded out the top ten with eServer.eu
and Travailadomicile.fr at $6,550 each and went on to
sweep 17 of 20 entries overall. NetFleet.com.au nailed down two of
the remaining spots including #11 with Scaffolding.com.au at $6,069.
It was a remarkably diverse week with 14 different
extensions represented on the leader board. Germany's .de had
the most entries with three, followed by four others with two each -
Great Britain's .co.uk, Australia's .com.au, France's
.fr and the European Union's .eu.

The non .com gTLDs didn't get a very good
break out of the 2013 gate. No five-figure sales were reported in
this category, leaving the door open for Videncia.net to take
the top spot on our new weekly Non .Com gTLD Top 20 Sales Chart
with a $7,205
sale at Sedo. Sedo also filled the runner up slot with Tagesgeld.biz
at $5,109.
Afternic took the next two spots with #3 Digs.net
at $4,500 and #4 Tweb.net at $4,388, starting a
roll that gave them 12 of the 20 chart entries including 6 of the
top 10. Their haul included one of only two non .net domains on the
top half of the leader board - #8 GreenLotteryCard.org at $2,900.
The only charted sale not claimed by Afternic
or Sedo was #12 PressWire.net, sold by AbdulBasitMakranifor $2,412 in a private
transaction. The .nets easily won the extension raise, piling
up 14 of the 20 chart entries. Org was next with five leaving
