The
Ties That Bind: Two Names Share Top Spot on This Week's Domain Sales
Chart - Four Others Deadlocked in the Runner Up Spot
The action in the domain
aftermarket was dominated by mid-range sales again this week
with the biggest transactions topping out at $60,000. Two
names hit that mark to stake equal claims to the #1 position
on our latest all extension Top 20 Sales Chart. Sedo
earned a place in the spotlight with HotelsGuide.com, a
position shared with LuxResorts.com. In a private
transaction, Matt Worth sold the latter domain to the
operators of LuxIslandResorts.com
after picking the domain up on the drop three years ago.
This week's runner up spot was even more
crowded with four domains shoe-horned into that position. FunLife.com,
MyModa.com, Offset.com and Snipes.com sold for $50,000
each. The first two sold at GoDaddyAuctions,
DomainMarket.com
handled the Offset.com sale and Snipes.com was sold by Afternic.
Ties continued to dominate the
leader board with three names tied for the final spot on the top
half of the elite list, another trio tied for #13 and four others
knotted at #20. In a real oddity, only 16 of the 23 names on the Big
Board share their positions with other names (the extra three spots
resulted from that four-way tie for the final position).

The week's biggest ccTLD sale, #8
CarInsurance.net.au, an Australian country code domain sold for $34,703
at NetFleet.com.au,
was one of the few who were alone at their rung on the ladder.
NetFleet also sold #19 FreeBets.com.au for $15,465.
The ccTLDs had one more chart representative - #18 Verzuimmanagement.nl
- a Dutch domain that sold for $15,851 at Sedo.
the non .com gTLDs were not as
fortunate as that category wound up being shut out. No reported
sales from that group reached five figures.
That left the dominant .coms
holding 20 of the 23 chart entries. GoDaddyAuctions had six of
those, Sedo five and Afternic four. NetFleet and DomainNameSales.com
(DNS) also had multiple chart entries with each scoring twice. DNS
hit the top half of the leader board with #7 Pagagei.com at
$38,000 and shared the #13 (tie) slot with DomainAdvisors.com
after selling Tropicalia.com for them at $20,000.
Chart honors also went to FindYourDomain.com
for brokering #9 (tie) WrightFoods.com for $25,000 and
to Flippa.com for
their $16,000 sale of #17 Segment.com.

Keep in mind that these are the highest
value sales that have been reported to us in the
past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool,
not a complete list documenting ALL high
value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce
because many sales are kept private at the insistence of
buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the
accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.
Forthe many newcomers entering the domain
industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market.
If you do not understand why specific domain names command the
prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases.
We highly recommend that you do some basic research beforeyou buyanything! As a starting point we have
built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.
