Market's
Mid Range Back in the Spotlight While the High End Takes a
Breather
This wound up being the only week in November
without a six-figure sale being reported. After ten sales were
logged at that level over the past three weeks, $70,000 wound
up being good enough to take the top spot on this week's all
extension Top 20 Sales Chart - an honor that went to DomainNameSales.com
for their sale of MiniPlay.com.
Of course, the past week was a very short
one business wise due to the Thanksgiving holiday in the United
States. Many companies shut down both Thursday and Friday as a
result. Still, the market's mid range flexed a lot of muscle during
the abbreviated work week with 23 five-figure public sales being
booked, including Afternic's
$60,000 sale of #2 Styles.com.
The week's biggest country code sale
shared the #3 spot with another .com. ExcellentDomains.ca
sold Canadian ccTLD VU.ca for $30,000 while UpMarketDNs.com
rang up the same amount for iTrust.com. Some of you might be
saying - wait a minute - didn't I see iTrust.com on the chart just
three weeks ago? Yes, you did. The name was picked up for $20,000
at Sedo earlier this month then quickly flipped for a very nice
profit this week through UpMarketDNs.
By
Ron Jackson
Sedo
rounded out the first five with Juegos-Gratis.com at $25,800
and they went on to pile up 11 of the 23 chart entries (the extra
three spots resulted from a four-way tie for the final position).
Their haul included all three of the non .com gTLD domains on the
leader board, a trio led by #10 Banque.net at $15,480.
That was another example of a terrific flip. The seller had acquired
the domain for a mere $4,000 last April at Afterniic.
The ccTLDs also had a good outing with
four names on the Big Board. #6 Lead.co joined VU.ca on the
top half of the chart after it was disclosed that independent broker
Maureen Sullivan found a buyer for the .CO Registry at
$25,000. The deal was actually completed earlier this year
but was just now disclosed. BrightNames.com
also had a good country code sale with #20 (tie) Mur.al at $10,000.
They sold the Albanian ccTLD to Tactivos.com,
the people behind Mural.ly.
BrightNames also had another one of the
four sales that share 20th position - Cosmonauts.com at $10,000
- one of 16 .com domains on the elite list. Chart honors also went
to Flippa.com for their sale of #8 Thriller.com at $19,000.
Flippa is best known for selling developed websites but they also
make a number of domain only sales like this one.
Tthere is one other notable transaction to
tell you about this week. While digging through SEC filings, George
Kirikos spotted a report that Quamtel, Inc. had
sold the domain name 800.com to its former sole shareholder, Steven
Ivester, for $850,000. The problem is no money changed
hands. Quamtel said the $850,000 valuation came Ivester agreeing to
take the domain in exchange for deducting that amount from a
liability the company owned him. Ivester had originally bought
800.com for the company in a bankrupcty auction at a cost of $250,000.
Andrew Allemann wrote more about this transaction at DomainNameWire.com.
Now back to the business at hand. Here is how the
sales leaders stacked up for the

Keep in mind that these are the highest
value sales that have been reported to us in the
past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool,
not a complete list documenting ALL high
value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce
because many sales are kept private at the insistence of
buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the
accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.
Forthe many newcomers entering the domain
industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market.
If you do not understand why specific domain names command the
prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases.
We highly recommend that you do some basic research beforeyou buyanything! As a starting point we have
built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

Country Codes
The ccTLDs were led by the quartet of five-figure
sales you saw on the all extension Top 20 Chart above. The highest sale
in this category that you haven't seen yet is #5
on this week's Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. That is
Casinos.com.mx at $8,904 via Sedo. Broker Maureen
Sullivan sold a second domain for the .CO Registry. In additon to #2
Lead.co at $25,000, she found a buyer for #6 Base.co
at $9,000.
Sedo took the next two slots with #7 BodyCode.de
($7,095) and #8 Paw.co.uk ($6,800) and they went on to
claim 14 of the 22 chart entries (the extra two spots resulted from
a three-way tie for the final position). Rounding out the top ten
were NetFleet.com.au's$6,483 sale of Trampolines.com.au and Sedo's $5,418
sale of Pacta.se.
Germany's .de won the extension race with
five chart entries followed by Great Britain's .co.uk with
three. Five other TLDs each scored twice - Canada's .ca,
Colombia's .co, Sweden's .se, Tuvalu's .tv and
Spain's .es.
