Three-Letter
.com Takes Top Spot on This Week's Chart After Changing Hands for
$80,000
This was a good week for 3-letter
domains. One of them, LHN.com, leads this week's all extension Top 20 Sales Chart after
changing
hands for $80,000 in a private transaction. Truaxe
Holdings Inc. bought the acronym to serve as a shortcut to the
company's Look Hot Naked website
that will be launching next spring.
Another 3-letter .com, #11 (tie)
ZTS.com, also made the elite list with a $15,000 sale at Sedo.
Yet another three-letter domain, this one a ccTLD, shares
that 11th spot. Chinese country code domain XHD.cn also
fetched $15,000 through Sedo. One of the biggest 3-letter
.biz sales we have ever seen was also posted this week. It fell
just short of making the Big Board but Sedo's $10,320 sale of
RIA.biz was still notable.
.Coms swept the top five spots on
this week's chart with DomainHoldings
taking the runner-up slot with Exporters.com at $60,000 while
Afternic
filled the #3 hole with SixPackAbs.com at $58,000. Sedo's
highest sale, MexicoCityHotels.com, was #4 at $45,000
with a joint DomainHoldings/Afternic sale of #5 Sobriety.com
for $30,000 anchoring the impressive .com run at the top.
By
Ron Jackson
.Coms went on to pile up 16 of the 20
chart entries. Three ccTLDs, all sold by Sedo, slipped through the
.com defenses, with two of those - #6 Monkey.co.uk at $22,400
and #7 (tie) Software.cl at $20,000 - landing on the
top half of the ladder. The latter sale was one of the very few .CL
(Chilean country code) sales we have ever seen reported.
The non .com gTLDs were limited to
one chart entry with PeopleFinders.net slipping into the #19
slot after selling for $10,800 at Afternic - one of four
Top 20 sales for them. Four other venues rang up multiple chart
entries led by Sedo's nine. Moniker/SnapNames
rang up three while DomainNameSales
and DomainHoldings each had a hand in two.

Keep in mind that these are the highest
value sales that have been reported to us in the
past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool,
not a complete list documenting ALL high
value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce
because many sales are kept private at the insistence of
buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the
accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.
Forthe many newcomers entering the domain
industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market.
If you do not understand why specific domain names command the
prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases.
We highly recommend that you do some basic research beforeyou buyanything! As a starting point we have
built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.
There were six more five-figure sales just off
the chart including the Moniker/SnapNames sales of Displays2Go.ca ($10,225) and MO9.com

Country Codes
A quintet of five-figure sales set the pace
for the ccTLDs this week. Those five, which you saw in teh
all extension section above, fill the first five slots on our latest
weekly Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. The highest ccTLD sale that you haven't seen yet is
#6 EnergieNet.nl, a Dutch domain that drew $9,675 at
Sedo.
Sedo went on sweep 19 of the 20 chart entries
including #7 Wood.co at $7,000 and #8 TravertineTiles.co.uk
at $5,581.
The TLD race ended in a three way tie. Great Britain's .co.uk,
the Netherlands' .nl and Germany's .de each placed
three names on the leader board. China's .cn was the only
other extension with multiple chart entries with that TLD scoring
twice. Nine other countries divided the nine remaining slots.
