Big
Week for ccTLDs as They Take Eight Places on the All Extension Top
20 Chart Including Five of the Top Ten
The .coms, as usual, took the most
positions on our latest weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart -
11 places overall, including the top two - but the ccTLDs
also enjoyed a big outing, piling up eight chart entries in one their
best performances of the year.
The .coms set the pace with #1 Vogel.com
at $75,000 and #2 MyWed.com at $50,000 but the
country codes answered with a nice duo of their own - #3 Doctor.co.uk
at $40,248 and #4 Ristorante.it at $25,545.
JustPay.com at $25,000 rounded out the first five and
gave Sedoa
clean sweep of the top five slots.
Sedo rang up 11 charted sales overall
including six of the eight ccTLDs on the Big Board. The two country
code headliners that sold elsewhere were #7 Credit.com.au
(sold by NetFleet.com.au
for $18,964) and #9 OO.tv (brokered by MostWantedDomains.com
on behalf of seller Legacy
Fund LLC).
By
Ron Jackson
MostWantedDomains had two more top ten
sales - #6 OffTheBeatenTrack.com at $20,000 and #10
(tie) PayWithCash.com at $15,000. Afternic
and DomainNameSales
also rang up multiple chart entries. DomainNameSales scored with #10
(tie) PayWithCash.com at $15,000 and #14 LuxuryVillaRentals.com
at $13,500, a name they moved for DomainAdvisors.com.
Meanwhile, Afternic hit the daily double with #15 Postkarte.com
at $13,318 and #18 LawPal.com at $12,500.
While the .coms and ccTLDs were busy
flexing their muscles, the non .com gTLDs were limited to
just one
entry on the elite list - #16 Restaurantes.info at $13,100 via
Sedo.
As you may have already heard,
the Irish Timesreported
this week that they have sold Ireland.com to Tourism
Ireland for €495,000 ($648,450), however the WhoIs
record still shows the Irish Times as the owner. There is
also some question as to whether or not this was a domain only sale.
The Irish Times described it as a "digital
co-operation agreement" and some elements of the already
well developed Ireland.com website may be retained when Ireland
Tourism unveils a new site they plan to launch on the domain later
this year. When the transfer has completed and the new site is
launched it should be easier to determine if this can be charted as
a domain only sale or not.
Here is how the sales leaders stacked up for the
week ending Sunday, Oct. 14:

Keep in mind that these are the highest
value sales that have been reported to us in the
past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool,
not a complete list documenting ALL high
value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce
because many sales are kept private at the insistence of
buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the
accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.
Forthe many newcomers entering the domain
industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market.
If you do not understand why specific domain names command the
prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases.
We highly recommend that you do some basic research beforeyou buyanything! As a starting point we have
built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.
There were two more five-figure sales just off
the chart with DomainNameSales bagging $10,000 for NaturalPestControl.com

Country Codes
As noted
in the all extension section above,
the ccTLDs enjoyed a banner week, piling up eight entries on
the all extension Top 20 chart. Those transactions, of course, fill the first
eight slots on our new
weekly Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. The highest country
code sale that you haven't seen yet is #9 EJP.nl, a name that
went for $9,498 at Sedo. They also sold ANPR.co.uk for
$8,855 to round out the top ten.
Sedo wound up sweeping 18 of the 20 chart entries
after running the table on the second half of the leader board with
a group led by #11 Puntobana.it at $8,050.
For the second week in a row, Great Britain's .co.uk easily won the extension race,
taking five chart entries this time. No other TLD had more than two.
Italy's .it, the Netherlands .nl and the European Union's .eu
had two each with the remaining nine positions divided between nine different extensions.

The lone five figure sale in the non .com
gTLD category - Restaurantes.info at $13,100
through Sedo - easily took the top spot on latest weekly Non .com
gTLD Top 20 Sales Chart. The runner-up, Xsoft.net, was
almost $5,000 back after changing hands for $8,288 at
Afternic.
Afternic went on to sweep 14 of the 20 chart
entries, including 7 of the top 10 with a roster than included #4 ITEC.net
at $4,000 and #5 711.net at $3,977.
The .nets easily won the extension race,
piling up 14 chart entries. The .orgs were limited to five
for the second week in a row and .info had one. Fortunately
for the latter TLD, that one topped all of the others.
