Platinum.com
Strikes Gold - Tops This Week's Chart After Changing Hands in One of
the Year's Five Biggest Domain Sales
This week's sales race was no
contest as Platinum.com zoomed to the top of our latest all
extension Top 20 Sales Chart after changing hands for
$250,000 at Moniker/SnapNames.
That makes it the 5th highest domain sale reported so
far this year.
That quarter of a million dollar sale is
almost four times higher than the #2 domain but that one was also
notable. David Lye's sale of Hobart.com.au for $67,600
in a private transaction is the largest Australian ccTLD sale
of the year to date and the 12th largest country code sale of any
kind reported so far in 2012 (the Year to Date ccTLD Top 100 Chart
is the second chart on this
page).
This week's top five was rounded out by a
trio of .coms sold at three different venues. DomainAdvisors.com
used the DomainNameSales
platform to sell #3 Kipi.com for $47,500, The AfternicDLS
drew $36,720 for #4 CESC.com and Sedo
secured $30,702 for #5 WandTattoos.com.
By
Ron Jackson
Sedo went on to pile up 10 of 20 chart entries including the other
four ccTLDs that earned spots on the elite list. That group was led
by #8 Gratis.pl (Polish country code) at $21,737. Sedo
also posted the only non .com gTLD sale on the Big Board -
#20 Internet.info at $11,868.
DomainNameSales put four names on the leader board and Moniker/SnapNames
posted three, including another top ten entry with #7 FurCoats.com
at $22,500, one of 14 .coms on the chart. The
AfternicDLS also had multiple chart entries, completing the daily
double with #17 (tie) TodaysHealth.com at $12,500.

Keep in mind that these are the highest
value sales that have been reported to us in the
past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool,
not a complete list documenting ALL high
value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce
because many sales are kept private at the insistence of
buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the
accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.
Forthe many newcomers entering the domain
industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market.
If you do not understand why specific domain names command the
prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases.
We highly recommend that you do some basic research beforeyou buyanything! As a starting point we have
built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

the chart, led by ADvermain's $11,000 sale of Addvocate.com.

Country Codes
The ccTLDs enjoyed a banner week led by the 8
five-figure salesyou saw in the all extension section above.
The highest sale in this
category that you haven't seen yet is #9 on our latest weekly Country Code Top
20 Sales Chart - that is SuperCross.tv, a name that
changed hands for $8,000 at MostWantedDomains.com.
Sedo rounded out the top ten with Scout.co.uk at $7,500.
Sedo went on to sweep 16 of the 20 chart entries.
The AfternicDLS had one of the non-Sedo sales with #12 SeniorCare.tv
at $6,590 and DomainLore.co.uk
had another with Magma.co.uk at $5,820.
By the way - last week we inadvertently credited
four DomainLore sales to Sedo. When the error was brought to
our attention we corrected the report but in case you read last
week's column before the venue name was changed, the sales that
should have been credited to Domain Lore were WineCellar.co.uk
($7,614), Impotence.co.uk ($3,078) and two, UJ.co.uk
and WY.co.uk at $1,458 each.
Germany's .de won the extension race with six
chart entries this week. Great Britain's .co.uk was next with
four while three others; France's .fr, Tuvalu's .tv
and Colombia's .co each had two. Four ccTLDs divided up the
other four entries.
