Where's the Afterparty? At #1 on This Week's Domain Sales Chart!

No blockbuster sales were reported this past week but a wide assortment of solid mid-range sales were booked. The best of those was Afterparty.com, a domain that DomainAdvisors.com sold on the DomainNameSales platform for $45,000. The next two spots on our latest all  extension Top 20 Sales Chart went to a pair of .coms sold through the  AfternicDLS; #2 CashLady.com at $36,000 and #3 OptionTrade.com at $30,000

The top non .com sale was #4 Preisvergleich.net ("price comparison" in German) at $20,800 via Sedo. They put two more non .com gTLDs on the board with #11 (tie) Daisuki.net at $15,000 and #14 (tie) LeanIn.org at $13,000

The ccTLDs were also well represented with four entries on the elite list led by #8 SH.de at $19,947. Sedo, whose eight charted domains topped all venues, accounted for three of the four country code sales. The other one went to Michael Berkens's MostWantedDomains where #11 (tie) Seed.co sold for $15,000

By Ron Jackson

The Afternic DLS and DomainNameSales each placed five names on the Big Board with the AfternicDLS ringing up three of the five biggest sales with a group that included #5 ChinaIndustry.com at $20,540

We were also contacted this week by parties involved in a $528,000 transaction involving Accommodation.com and Accommodation.co.uk. The deal involved a five-year payment plan, so we can't chart the domains as we need to see full payment made and domains transferred before we can consider a sale complete. Still, this is a notable deal involving two solid domains. Buyer Roland B. Bleyer, who is planning to build new sites on the names, told us he valued the .com at $440,000 and the .co.uk version at $88,000

SuperbDomains.com helped broker the deal for the Accommodation domains, part of over $2.1 million in sales they have had a hand in over the past 10 months. I have seen the escrow receipts for the majority of those but most are subject to NDAs and can't be published. One exception I can tell you about is a $125,000 package deal involving Supplements.net, Supplements.ca and Supplements.us that was done earlier this year.

Now let's get back to the week just concluded. Here is how the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 16:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

For the many newcomers entering the domain industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market. If you do not understand why specific domain names command the prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases. We highly recommend that you do some basic research before you buy anything! As a starting point we have built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

Country Codes

A quartet of five-figure sales set the pace for the ccTLDs this week. All of those made the all extension top 20 chart at the top of this report so the highest sale in this category that you haven't seen yet is #5 on our latest weekly Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart - that is WineCellar.co.uk, a name that changed hands for $7,614 at DomainLore.co.uk

Sedo swept 15 of the 20 chart entries including 7 of the top 10 with a roster that included #6 Lernhilfe.de at $6,747 and #7 Festgeldrechner.de at $6,500. NetFleet.com.au helped break up a Sedo sweep with #10 GoldBullion.com.au and the AfternicDLS also scored with #13 Survey.cn ($4,750) and #16 iShot.co ($4,000).

The race among extensions was a close one with no TLD dominating. Germany's .de and Colombia's .co each took three spots while Great's Britain's .co.uk, China's .cn and Italy's .it took two spots apiece. The remaining eight positions were divided among eight different countries.

Here is how the ccTLD leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 16:

That sale at Sedo was one of three five-figure sales they placed at the top of our  latest weekly Non .com gTLD Top 20 Sales Chart.
