Six-Figure Sale of BTI.com Bags Top Spot on This Week's Domain Sales Chart - ccTLDs & Non .Com gTLDs Did Well Too

This was one of those weeks that gave everyone something to cheer about. Yes, the .coms were their usual dominant selves, taking the first four spots on our all extension Top 20 Sales Chart and 12 places overall. However, the ccTLDs also showed up strong, muscling their way into five slots on the honor roll, including two in the top ten. The non .com gTLDs took a few bows on the Big Board too, claiming three positions, including two of their own in the top ten.

BTI.com set the pace with a $100,000 sale co-brokered by Uniregistry and DomainBooth.com. The name of the latter sales venue may look unfamiliar to you but that is just the new trade number for James Booth, the very successful young broker who has made countless appearances on our charts in recent years. James originally operated from BQDN.com (an acronym for Best Quality Domain Names) before switching to Phenom.com last year. As great a name as that is, the new moniker (that Phenom.com currently forwards too) does allow him to put both his product and his personal name front and center.

Joe Uddeme at NameExperts.com posted the #2 sale this week, making waves with his $57,500 sale of JetSki.com. A private sale of Fluxon.com at $36,000 filled the #3 hole while Michael Mann's DomainMarket.com rounding out the .com com quartet at the top with Flammen.com at $30,000. That name was purchased by a large restaurant chain of the same name that is based in Denmark. DomainMarket put two more names in the top ten with Cascad.com and PuffBar.com tying for #9 at $20,000 each.

By Ron Jackson

The first non .com in the line up is the Afilias/Afternic sale of #5 Art.pro at $25,999 in a deal that was brokered by Mark Ghoriafi, the Director of Premium Domains at Afilias, in association with the sales team at Afternic. Mark also handled the $20,500 sale of #8 Free.bet. There's an interesting back story on that one. It was bought by Andy Bell, the guy who sold BettingOdds.com for $487,500 last summer. Bell has been a key player in gambling related domains for some time and has started offering some of his inventory (including names not related to the gaming space) on his own sales site at DomainsForSale.co.uk.

Sedo's $24,300 sale of #6 Buchhaltung.de ("accounting" in German) got the ccTLD train rolling and RapidNames.com helped it build it up steam with their $22,500 sale of #7 CoinPay.io. Sedo continued to fuel the fire by putting three more country code sales on the elite list.

Uniregistry wound up claiming the most chart entries with seven - all .coms except for a nice $10,000 new gTLD sale of #17 (tie) Sugar.baby. Uni's .com roster included a $16,500 sale of #11 Gelal.com they made for Kipa.com's Muhammet Dogan.

Country Codes

The ccTLDs were, of course, led by the quintet of sales you saw on the all extension leader board above with Sedo's $24,300 sale of Buchhaltung.de ("accounting" in German) setting the pace. The highest sale in the category that you haven't seen yet is #6 on our latest weekly Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. That is another Sedo sale - OneTrust.it at $8,046.

Sedo went on sweep 16 of the 20 chart entries. The only other venue with more than one was MagnumDomains where two domains that tied for #8 - Packed.co and QEF.co - sold for $4,980 each.

.IO won a tight extension race with four chart entries. Three other TLDs were just a step back with three. Here is how the top ccTLD sales stacked up for the week ending Sunday, February 16, 2020:

Non .com gTLDs (.net, .org and others, including new gTLDs)

The non .com gTLDs were led by that trio of five-figure sales you saw on the all extension leader board above with Art.pro leading the pack at $25,999. The biggest sale from this group that you haven't seen yet is #4 on out latest weekly Non .Com gTLD Top 20 Sales Chart. That is a $7,000 sale of Med.club that was made through GoDaddy.

You will notice a new data contributor, Afilias, all over the leader board this week. As many of you know, Afilias is the world’s second largest Internet domain name registry, with more than 20 million names under management. Afilias also provides the infrastructure that the powers at least two dozen of the web's top-level domains. The company's Director of Premium Domains, Mark Ghoriafi, provided us with a list of the top Afilias sales made since the start of 2020 and a dozen of those landed on this week's Top 20, including #5 C.black, a domain Mark brokered himself for $5,000. Afilias had especially good luck with .bet, putting seven two-letter .bet domains on the leader board. Going forward Mark plans to update us on the top Afilias sales weekly, a welcome new window that will give us a good deal more insight into the non .com gTLD category.
