Pair of Sedo Sales Totaling $640,000 Top This Week's Chart - Purple.com Price Also Revealed

You have to like how the 1st quarter of the new year is going for domain sales. Two more six-figure sales were closed this week (making 20 at that level or higher already in 2018) including an eye-popping $500,000 sale of DAX.com handled by Sedo that leads our latest weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart. That is, by far, the biggest 3-letter .com sale of the year and it ties for the 5th highest sale of any kind in 2018 to date. Frank Tillmans and Hao Shen co-brokered the sale for Sedo. It was an especially sweet week for Tillmans who also handled Sedo's sale of the #2 sale -  Edit.com at $140,000. Sedo then completed a sweep of the first three with WSB.com at $40,000 and went on to pile up 14 of the 20 chart entries overall.

The 3-letter .coms continue to be star performers, producing four of the week's six biggest sales. Like Sedo, James Booth's BQDN.com moved two of those with BQDN banking $27,000 for #4 WZM.com and another $24,500 for RQD.com. Sandwiched in between those was a $25,000 sale of #5 TexasDUIAttorney.com made by Braden Pollock at LegalBrandMarketing.com.

By Ron Jackson

The .Coms wound up sweeping 15 of 20 entries on the elite list including Michael Cyger's $18,000 sale of #8 SEOConsultant.com in a private transaction. In another private sale #10 CryptoCorp.com changed hands for $16,500 as crypto related domains continued their winning streak. In fact the only non .com gTLD on the Big Board this week was from the same category with #16 (tie) Crypto.club going for $10,000.

The ccTLDs, who are also having a good year, kept the ball rolling with four more entries on the honor roll, led by DBR.com.au's $18,480 (AUD $24,000) sale of #7 LifeBlood.com.au. Sedo booked the other three country code sales including #12 Vasquez.cl at $12,300 and #13 AJA.de at $12,288.

Another highlight of the week was learning how much money was paid for Purple.com in a widely publicized 2017 sale. As has been the case with so many previously unknown prices paid for ultra-premium domains the cost for this one was unearthed by George Kirikos. George found the number - a whopping $900,000 - in note 5 on page 14 of this SEC filing made by the buyer - a startup mattress company called Purple Innovations LLC.  The domain name itself is not shown on the page linked to above but it does appear elsewhere in the company's SEC filings - specifically on page 19 of this document. Thanks to George's spadework we have been able to add Purple.com to our 2017 Top 100 Sales Chart where it ranks as the 7th biggest sale of last year.

Non .com gTLDs (.net, .org and others, including new gTLDs)

Things remained slow on the  Non .com GTLD side of the ledger with only nine sales reported for the entire category and just one reaching five figures - new gTLD Crypto.club at $10,000 via Sedo. Sedo accounted for five of the chart entries with the .GLOBAL Registry logging the other four.

A trio of 3-letter .org sales at Sedo lined up behind Crypto.club with that group comprised of DTR.org ($5,000), FTR.org ($4,995) and MTD.org ($4,995). The .GLOBAL roster was led by GSC.global and House.global at $4,800 each.
