Six Figure .Com Stands Out in the Otherwise Slow Week We Expected  for Domain Sales

As I mentioned last week, we were expecting aftermarket domain sales to be slow this week because many offices in China were closed all of last week for the Chinese New Year. With the normally busy domain buyers there joining in the celebration sales activity was bound to fall off - and it did. If you look at our latest all extension Top 20 Sales Chart below, you will see an almost complete absence of the kinds of high end domains Chinese buyers prefer (predominantly ultra-short .com acronym and numeric domains).

With buyers back on the job this week, it will be very interesting to see what kind of results we will have to report next week. Some have been predicting the frenetic buying pace in the Far East will slow down soon while others think the the boom we've seen in recent months is just the beginning.

Only 10 sales above four figures were reported this week but one of those did clear the six-figure barrier to take the top spot on the Big Board. That was Magenta.com, a domain that changed hands via DomainNameSales.com for an even $100,000. Flippa.com took the next two spots with Creature.com at $35,000 and Pedal.com at $25,000. Sedo then made it four for four for the .coms by moving #4 CustomFit.com for $21,000.

By Ron Jackson

The first non .com domain to break through - Goal.net at $13,500 via SnapNames - completed the  first five. That was one of three non .com gTLDs on the leader board, joined by #12 Enrollment.org ($9,000 at SnapNames) and #19 01.biz ($6,292 at Sedo).

The ccTLDs, who were shut out last week, bounced back with three charted sales of their own - all of those landing in the top ten. #6 Barcelo.cn led the way for the country codes with an $11,200 sale at Sedo. They rang up the other two as well, banking $10,080 for #8 Cashpoint.nl and $9,999 for #10 (tie) Leasing.co.uk.

Keep in mind that these are the highest value cash only sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Country Codes

The ccTLDs were led by the three sales you saw on the all extension leader board at the top of this report with Sedo's $11,200 sale of Barcelo.cn setting the pace. The biggest sale in this category that you haven't seen yet is #4 on our latest Country Code Top Sales Chart. That is MyGift.de at $4,480 via Sedo.

Flippa rounded out the first five with Shopping.fm at $4,299. Sedo  claimed the rest of the  top ten en route to sweeping 20 of the 22 chart entries (the extra spots resulting from a four-way tie for the final position). Golem.eu took one of the two spots Sedo didn't get, picking up $2,664 for #14 PatientSafety.eu.

Germany's .de won the extension race with five chart entries. In a very diverse week no other TLD had more than two. Here is how the country code leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016:
